(KJV) Job 33¹

⥃Elihu Rebukes Job

[1] Wherefore, Job, I pray thee, hear² my speeches, and hearken to all my words. [2] Behold, now I³ have opened my mouth⁴, my tongue hath spoken in my mouth. [3] My words [shall be of] the⁵ uprightness of my heart: and my lips⁶ shall utter knowledge clearly. [4] The Spirit of God hath made me, and the breath of the Almighty hath given me life.⁷ [5] If⁸ thou canst answer me, set⁹ [thy words] in order before me, stand¹⁰ up. [6] Behold, I [am¹¹] according to thy wish¹² in¹³ God’s stead: I also¹⁴ am formed¹⁵ out of the clay. [7] Behold, my terror¹⁶ shall not make thee afraid, neither shall my hand¹⁷ be heavy upon thee. [8] Surely thou hast spoken in mine hearing¹⁸, and I have heard the voice of [thy] words, [saying], [9] I am clean¹⁹ without transgression, I [am] innocent²⁰; neither [is there] iniquity in me. [10] Behold, he findeth²¹ occasions against me, he counteth²² me for his enemy, [11] He putteth²³ my feet in the stocks, he marketh²⁴ all my paths. [12] Behold, [in] this thou²⁵ art not just: I will²⁶ answer thee, that God²⁷ is greater than man. [13] Why dost thou strive²⁸ against him? for he giveth not account²⁹ of any of his matters. [14] For God³⁰ speaketh once, yea twice, [yet man] perceiveth³¹ it not. [15] In a dream³², in a vision of the night, when deep³³ sleep falleth upon men, in slumberings upon the bed; [16] Then he openeth³⁴ the ears of men, and sealeth³⁵ their instruction, [17] That he may withdraw³⁶ man [from his] purpose³⁷, and hide³⁸ pride from man. [18] He keepeth³⁹ back his soul from the pit, and his life from perishing⁴⁰ by the sword. [19] He is chastened⁴¹ also with pain⁴² upon his bed, and the multitude of his bones with strong [pain]: [20] So that his life⁴³ abhorreth bread, and his soul dainty meat⁴⁴. [21] His flesh⁴⁵ is consumed away, that it cannot be seen; and his bones⁴⁶ [that] were not seen stick out. [22] Yea, his soul⁴⁷ draweth near unto the grave, and his life⁴⁸ to the destroyers. [23] If there be a messenger⁴⁹ with him, an interpreter⁵⁰, one⁵¹ among a thousand, to⁵² shew unto man his uprightness: [24] Then⁵³ he is gracious unto him, and saith, Deli⁵⁴ver⁵⁵ him from going down to the pit: I have found a ransom⁵⁶. [25] His flesh⁵⁷ shall be fresher than a child’s⁵⁸: he shall return⁵⁹ to the days of his youth: [26] He shall pray⁶⁰ unto God, and he will be favourable unto him: and he shall⁶¹ see his face with joy: for he will⁶² render unto man his righteousness. [27] He looketh⁶³ upon men, and [i⁶⁴f any] say, I have sinned⁶⁵, and perverted⁶⁶ [that which was] right⁶⁷, and it profited⁶⁸ me not; [28] He will deliver⁶⁹ his soul from going into the pit, and his life shall see⁷⁰ the light. [29] Lo, all⁷¹ these [things] worketh God oftentimes⁷² with man, [30] To bring⁷³ back his soul from the pit, to be enlightened⁷⁴ with the light of the living. [31] Mark well, O Job, hearken unto me: hold thy peace, and I will speak.⁷⁵ [32] If thou hast any thing to say, answer me: speak, for I desire to justify thee.⁷⁶ [33] If not, hearken⁷⁷ unto me: hold thy peace, and I⁷⁸ shall teach thee wisdom.
