⥃Taste and See That the LORD Is Good [ 1 Samuel 21:8–15 ]
[A Psalm] of David, when he changed his behaviour before Abimelech; who drove him away, and he departed.
[1] I will bless the Lord at all times: his praise [shall] continually [be] in my mouth.2 [2] My soul shall make3 her boast in the Lord: the humble4 shall hear [thereof], and be glad. [3] O magnify5 the Lord with me, and let us6 exalt his name together. [4] I sought7 the Lord, and he heard me, and delivered me from8 all my fears. [5] They9 looked unto him, and were10 lightened11: and their12 faces were not ashamed. [6] This13 poor man cried, and the Lord heard [him], and saved14 him out of all his troubles. [7] The angel15 of the Lord encampeth16 round about them that fear him, and delivereth them. [8] O taste17 and see that the Lord18 [is] good: blessed19 [is] the man [that] trusteth in him. [9] O fear20 the Lord, ye his saints: for21 [there is] no want to them that fear him. [10] The young lions22 do lack, and suffer hunger: but23 they that seek the Lord shall not want any good [thing]. [11] Come24, ye children, hearken unto me: I will25 teach you the fear of the Lord. [12] What26 man [is he that] desireth life, [and] loveth [many] days, that he27 may see good? [13] Keep28 thy tongue from evil, and thy lips from speaking29 guile. [14] Depart30 from evil, and do31 good; seek32 peace, and pursue it. [15] The33 eyes of the Lord [are] upon the righteous, and34 his ears [are open] unto their cry. [16] The face35 of the Lord [is] against them that do evil, to cut36 off the remembrance of them from the earth. [17] [The righteous37] cry38, and the Lord heareth, and delivereth them out of all their troubles. [18] The Lord [is] nigh39 unto them40 that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as41 be of a contrite spirit. [19] Many42 [are] the afflictions of the righteous: but43 the Lord delivereth him out of them all. [20] He keepeth all his bones: not one of them is broken.44 [21] Evil45 shall slay the wicked: and they46 that hate the righteous shall be desolate47. [22] The Lord redeemeth48 the soul of his servants: and none49 of them that trust in him shall be desolate.

Ps 34:1, David praises God, and exhorts others thereto by his experience; Ps 34:8, They are blessed that trust in God; Ps 34:11, He exhorts to the fear of God; Ps 34:15, The privileges of the righteous. This is the second of the alphabetical Psalms (the first being Psa. 25): each verse beginning consecutively with a letter of the Hebrew alphabet. The verse, however, which begins with εּ, wav , and which should come in between the fifth and sixth, is totally wanting; but as the 22nd, which now begins with τּ, pay , podeh , “redeemeth,” is entirely out of the series, it is not improbable that it was originally written oophodeh , “and redeemeth” and occupied that situation, in which connection it reads admirably. There is no word for the righteous in the present Hebrew Text; but it is preserved in all the versions; and it was probably lost from its similitude to tzaakoo, "they cry:" - tzaakoo tazddeekim, "the righteous cry." ↩
