Tell of His Wonders 2[ 1 Chronicles 16:7–22 ]

[1] O give3 thanks unto the Lord; call4 upon his name: make known5 his deeds among the people. [2] Sing unto6 him, sing psalms unto him: talk ye7 of all his wondrous works. [3] Glory8 ye in his holy name: let the heart9 of them rejoice that seek the Lord. [4] Seek10 the Lord, and his strength11: seek his face12 evermore. [5] Remember13 his marvellous works that he hath done; his wonders, and the judgments14 of his mouth; [6] O ye seed15 of Abraham his servant, ye children of Jacob his chosen16. [7] He [is] the Lord17 our God: his judgments18 [are] in all the earth. [8] He hath remembered19 his covenant for ever, the word [which] he commanded to a thousand20 generations. [9] Which [covenant] he made with Abraham, and his oath unto Isaac;21 [10] And confirmed the same unto Jacob for a law, [and] to Israel [for] an everlasting22 covenant: [11] Saying, Unto thee23 will I give the land of Canaan, the lot24 of your inheritance: [12] When they were [but] a few25 men in number; yea, very few, and strangers26 in it. [13] When they went from one nation to another, from [one] kingdom to another people; [14] He suffered no man to do them wrong: yea, he reproved kings for their sakes;27 [15] [Saying], Touch28 not mine29 anointed, and do30 my prophets no harm. [16] Moreover31 he called for a famine upon the land: he brake32 the whole staff of bread. [17] He sent33 a man before them, [even] Joseph34, [who] was sold for a servant: [18] Whose35 feet they hurt with fetters: he was laid in iron36: [19] Until the time that his word37 came: the word of the Lord tried him. [20] The king sent and loosed him; [even] the ruler of the people, and let him go free.38 [21] He made39 him lord of his house, and ruler of all his substance40: [22] To bind his princes at his pleasure; and teach41 his senators wisdom. [23] Israel42 also came into Egypt; and Jacob43 sojourned in the land44 of Ham. [24] And he45 increased his people greatly; and made46 them stronger than their enemies. [25] He turned47 their heart to hate48 his people, to deal subtilly with his servants. [26] He sent49 Moses his servant; [and] Aaron50 whom he had chosen. [27] They51 shewed his signs52 among them, and wonders53 in the land of Ham. [28] He sent54 darkness, and made it dark; and they rebelled55 not against his word. [29] He turned their waters into blood, and slew their fish.56 [30] Their land brought57 forth frogs in abundance, in the chambers of their kings. [31] He spake, and there58 came divers sorts of flies, [and] lice59 in all their coasts. [32] He gave them hail for rain60, [and] flaming fire in their land. [33] He smote their vines also and their fig trees; and brake the trees of their coasts.61 [34] He spake, and the locusts62 came, and caterpillers, and that without number, [35] And did eat up all the herbs in their land, and devoured the fruit of their ground. [36] He smote63 also all the firstborn in their land, the chief64 of all their strength. [37] He brought65 them forth also with silver and gold: and [there66 was] not one feeble [person] among their tribes. [38] Egypt was glad67 when they departed: for68 the fear of them fell upon them. [39] He spread69 a cloud for a covering; and fire to give light in the night. [40] [The people] asked70, and he brought quails, and satisfied71 them with the bread72 of heaven. [41] He opened73 the rock, and the waters gushed out; they ran in the dry places [like] a river. [42] For he74 remembered his holy promise, [and] Abraham75 his servant. [43] And he76 brought forth his people with joy77, [and] his chosen with gladness78: [44] And gave79 them the lands of the heathen: and they inherited80 the labour81 of the people; [45] That82 they might observe his statutes, and keep his laws. Praise ye the Lord83.

  1. am 2962, bc 1042 It appears from 1Chr 16:1-43, where the former part of this Psalm, as far as the Ps 105:16, is found with little variation, that David composed it at the removal of the ark to Mount Zion, and he himself probably enlarged it afterwards with the glorious detail of God's merciful dealings with Abraham and his posterity till their settlement in the land of Promise. The Hallelujah, which terminates the preceding Psalm, is made the title of this by the Septuagint, Vulgate, Arabic, and Ethiopic; and the Syriac considers it a paraphrase on the words, "Fear not, Jacob, to go down into Egypt;" "and teaches us spiritually not to fear when we are obliged to contend with devils; for God is our shield, and will fight for us."
