(KJV) Job 4¹

⥃Eliphaz: The Innocent Prosper

[1] Then Eliphaz² the Temanite answered³ and said, [2] [If] we assay to commune⁴ with thee, wilt thou⁵ be grieved? but who can withhold himself from speaking⁶? [3] Behold⁷, thou hast instructed many, and thou hast⁸ strengthened the weak hands. [4] Thy words have upholden⁹ him that was falling, and thou hast strengthened the feeble knees¹⁰. [5] But now it is come¹¹ upon thee, and thou faintest¹²; it toucheth¹³ thee, and thou art troubled. [6] [Is] not [this] thy fear¹⁴, thy confidence¹⁵, thy hope¹⁶, and the uprightness¹⁷ of thy ways? [7] Remember, I pray thee, who [ever¹⁸] perished, being innocent? or where were the righteous cut off? [8] Even as I have seen, they that plow¹⁹ iniquity, and sow wickedness, reap the same. [9] By the blast²⁰ of God they perish, and by the breath of his nostrils²¹ are they consumed. [10] The roaring of the lion, and the voice of the fierce lion, and the teeth²² of the young lions, are broken. [11] The old lion²³ perisheth²⁴ for lack of prey, and the stout²⁵ lion’s whelps are scattered abroad. [12] Now a thing²⁶ was secretly²⁷ brought to me, and mine ear received a little²⁸ thereof. [13] In thoughts²⁹ from the visions of the night, when deep sleep³⁰ falleth on men, [14] Fear³¹ came upon³² me, and trembling, which made all my bones³³ to shake. [15] Then a spirit³⁴ passed before my face; the hair³⁵ of my flesh stood up: [16] It stood still, but I could not discern the form there³⁶of: an image [was] before mine eyes, [there was] silence, and I heard a voice, [saying], [17] Shall mortal³⁷ man be more just than God? shall a man³⁸ be more pure than his maker? [18] Behold, he put³⁹ no trust in his servants; and his angels he charged with folly⁴⁰: [19] How much less [in] them that dwell⁴¹ in houses of clay, whose foundation [is] in the dust, [which] are crushed⁴² before the moth? [20] They are destroyed⁴³ from morning⁴⁴ to evening: they perish⁴⁵ for ever without⁴⁶ any regarding [it]. [21] Doth not their excellency⁴⁷ [which is] in them go away? they die⁴⁸, even without wisdom.
