<< Job 36 Job 38 >>

Elihu Proclaims God’s Majesty

[1] At this also my heart trembleth, and is moved out of his place.2 [2] Hear attentively3 the noise4 of his voice, and the sound [that] goeth out of his mouth. [3] He5 directeth it under the whole heaven, and his lightning6 unto the ends7 of the earth. [4] After it a voice8 roareth: he thundereth with the voice9 of his excellency; and he will10 not stay them when his voice is heard. [5] God thundereth11 marvellously with his voice; great12 things doeth he, which we cannot comprehend. [6] For he13 saith to the snow, Be thou [on] the earth; likewise to the small14 rain, and to the great15 rain of his strength. [7] He16 sealeth up the hand of every man; that17 all men may know his work. [8] Then the beasts go into dens, and remain in their places.18 [9] Out of the south19 cometh the whirlwind20: and cold out of the north21. [10] By the breath of God frost is given: and the breadth of the waters is straitened.22 [11] Also by watering he wearieth23 the thick cloud: he scattereth24 his bright cloud25: [12] And it26 is turned round about by his counsels: that27 they may do whatsoever he commandeth them upon the face of the world in the earth. [13] He causeth it to come, whether28 for correction29, or for his30 land, or for mercy31. [14] Hearken unto this, O Job: stand32 still, and consider33 the wondrous works of God. [15] Dost34 thou know when God disposed them, and caused the light35 of his cloud to shine? [16] Dost thou know the balancings36 of the clouds, the wondrous works of him which is perfect37 in knowledge? [17] How thy garments [are] warm, whe38n he quieteth the earth by the south [wind]? [18] Hast thou with him spread39 out the sky, [which is] strong, [and] as40 a molten looking glass? [19] Teach41 us what we42 shall say unto him; [for] we cannot order [our speech] by reason of darkness. [20] Shall it43 be told him that I speak? if a man speak, surely44 he shall be swallowed up. [21] And now [men] see not the bright light which [is] in the clouds: but the wind passeth, and cleanseth them.45 [22] Fair46 weather cometh out of the north: with47 God [is] terrible majesty. [23] [Touching] the Almighty, we48 cannot find him out: [he is] excellent49 in power, and in judgment50, and in plenty of justice: he will51 not afflict. [24] Men do therefore fear52 him: he53 respecteth not any [that are] wise of heart.
