Delight Yourself in the LORD 2[ 1 Kings 2:1–9 ]

[A Psalm] of David.

[1] Fret3 not thyself because of evildoers, neither4 be thou envious against the workers of iniquity. [2] For they shall soon be cut down like the grass, and wither as the green herb.5 [3] Trust6 in the Lord, and do good; [so] shalt7 thou dwell in the land, and verily8 thou shalt be fed9. [4] Delight10 thyself also in the Lord; and11 he shall give thee the desires of thine heart. [5] Commit12 thy way unto the Lord; trust also in him; and13 he shall bring [it] to pass. [6] And he shall14 bring forth thy righteousness as the light15, and thy judgment as the noonday. [7] Rest in16 the Lord, and wait17 patiently for him: fret18 not thyself because of him who prospereth in his way, because of the man19 who bringeth wicked devices to pass. [8] Cease20 from anger, and forsake wrath: fret21 not thyself in any wise to do evil. [9] For evildoers22 shall be cut off: but those that wait upon the Lord, they shall inherit23 the earth24. [10] For yet25 a little while, and the wicked26 [shall] not [be]: yea, thou27 shalt diligently consider his place, and it [shall] not [be]. [11] But the meek28 shall inherit the earth; and shall delight29 themselves in the abundance of peace. [12] The wicked plotteth30 against the just, and gnasheth31 upon him with his teeth.32 [13] The Lord shall laugh33 at him: for he seeth that his day34 is coming. [14] The wicked35 have drawn out the sword, and have bent their bow, to cast down the poor and needy, [and] to slay36 such as37 be of upright conversation. [15] Their sword38 shall enter into their own heart, and their bows39 shall be broken. [16] A little that a righteous man hath [is] better than the riches of many wicked.40 [17] For the arms41 of the wicked shall be broken: but the Lord42 upholdeth the righteous. [18] The Lord knoweth43 the days44 of the upright: and their45 inheritance shall be for ever. [19] They shall not be ashamed in the evil46 time: and in the days47 of famine they shall be satisfied. [20] But the48 wicked shall perish, and the enemies of the Lord [shall be] as the fat of lambs49: they shall consume; into smoke50 shall they consume away. [21] The wicked borroweth51, and payeth not again: but the righteous52 sheweth mercy, and giveth. [22] For [such as be] blessed53 of him shall inherit the earth; and [they that be] cursed54 of him shall be cut off55. [23] The steps56 of a [good] man are ordered57 by the Lord: and he delighteth58 in his way. [24] Though59 he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down: for60 the Lord upholdeth [him with] his hand. [25] I have61 been young, and [now] am old; yet62 have I not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed63 begging bread. [26] [He is] ever64 merciful65, and lendeth; and his seed66 [is] blessed. [27] Depart67 from evil, and do good68; and dwell for evermore. [28] For the Lord loveth69 judgment, and forsaketh70 not his saints; they are preserved for ever: but71 the seed of the wicked shall be cut off. [29] The righteous shall inherit the land, and dwell therein for ever.72 [30] The mouth of the righteous speaketh wisdom, and his tongue talketh of judgment.73 [31] The law74 of his God [is] in his heart; none75 of his steps76 shall slide. [32] The wicked watcheth77 the righteous, and seeketh to slay him. [33] The Lord will not78 leave him in his hand, nor condemn79 him when he is judged. [34] Wait80 on the Lord, and keep81 his way, and he shall exalt82 thee to inherit the land: when83 the wicked are cut off, thou shalt see [it]. [35] I have84 seen the wicked in great power, and spreading himself like a green bay tree85. [36] Yet he passed away, and, lo, he [was] not: yea, I sought him, but he could not be found.86 [37] Mark the perfect [man], and behold the upright: for the end of [that] man [is] peace.87 [38] But the transgressors shall be destroyed together: the end of the wicked shall be cut off.88 [39] But the salvation89 of the righteous [is] of the Lord: [he is] their strength90 in the time of trouble. [40] And the Lord91 shall help them, and deliver them: he shall deliver them from92 the wicked, and save them, because93 they trust in him.
