⥃The Transgression of the Wicked
To the chief Musician, [A Psalm] of David the servant2 of the Lord.
[1] The transgression3 of the wicked saith within my heart, [that there is] no4 fear of God before his eyes. [2] For he5 flattereth himself in his own eyes, until6 his iniquity be found to be hateful. [3] The words7 of his mouth [are] iniquity and deceit: he hath8 left off to be wise, [and] to do good. [4] He deviseth9 mischief10 upon his bed; he setteth11 himself in a way [that is] not good; he abhorreth12 not evil. [5] Thy mercy13, O Lord, [is] in the heavens; [and] thy faithfulness14 [reacheth] unto the clouds. [6] Thy righteousness15 [is] like the great mountains16; thy judgments17 [are] a great deep: O Lord, thou18 preservest man and beast. [7] How19 excellent20 [is] thy lovingkindness, O God! therefore the children of men put their21 trust under the shadow of thy wings. [8] They shall be abundantly22 satisfied23 with the fatness of thy house; and thou24 shalt make them drink of the river of thy pleasures25. [9] For26 with thee [is] the fountain of life: in thy27 light shall we see light. [10] O continue28 thy lovingkindness unto them that29 know thee; and thy30 righteousness to the upright in heart. [11] Let not the foot31 of pride come against me, and let not the hand32 of the wicked remove me. [12] There33 are the workers of iniquity fallen: they are cast down, and shall34 not be able to rise.

Ps 36:1, The grievous estate of the wicked; Ps 36:8, The excellency of God’s mercy; Ps 36:10, David prays for favour to God’s children. This Psalm is supposed by some to have been composed by David at the beginning of Saul’s persecutions; but Calmet and others, on good grounds, are of opinion that it was written during the Babylonian captivity. ↩

Or, rather, "The speech of transgression to the wicked is within his heart.
