⥃God Remains Faithful
[1] What advantage2 then hath the Jew? or what profit [is there] of circumcision? [2] Much3 every way: chiefly, because4 that unto them were committed5 the oracles6 of God. [3] For what if some7 did not believe? shall8 their unbelief make the faith9 of God without effect? [4] God forbid10: yea, let God11 be true, but every12 man a liar; as it is written, That thou13 mightest be justified in thy sayings, and mightest overcome when thou art judged. [5] But if14 our unrighteousness commend the righteousness of God, what shall15 we say? [Is] God16 unrighteous who taketh vengeance? (I speak17 as a man) [6] God forbid18: for then19 how shall God judge the world? [7] For if the truth20 of God hath more abounded through my lie unto his glory; why yet21 am I also judged as a sinner? [8] And not [rather], (as we be22 slanderously reported, and as some affirm that we say,) Let us23 do evil, that good may come? whose damnation is just.
⥃There Is No One Righteous [ Psalms 14:1–7 † Psalms 53:1–6 † Isaiah 59:1–17 ]
[9] What then24? are we25 better [than they]? No, in no wise: for we have before proved26 both Jews and Gentiles, that they27 are all under sin; [10] As it is28 written, There29 is none30 righteous, no, not one: [11] There is none that understandeth31, there is none that seeketh32 after God. [12] They are33 all gone out of the way, they are together become34 unprofitable; there is none35 that doeth good, no, not one. [13] Their throat36 [is] an open sepulchre; with their37 tongues they have used deceit; the poison38 of asps [is] under their lips: [14] Whose mouth [is] full of cursing and bitterness:39 [15] Their feet [are] swift to shed blood:40 [16] Destruction and misery [are] in their ways: [17] And the way of peace have they not known:41 [18] There is no fear of God before their eyes.42 [19] Now we know that what things43 soever the law saith, it saith to them who are under the law: that44 every mouth may be stopped, and all the45 world may become guilty before God46. [20] Therefore47 by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh48 be justified in his sight49: for by the50 law [is] the knowledge of sin.
⥃Righteousness through Faith in Christ [ Philippians 3:1–11 ]
[21] But now the righteousness51 of God without the law is manifested, being52 witnessed by the law and the53 prophets; [22] Even the righteousness of God [which is54] by faith of Jesus Christ unto all55 and upon56 all them that believe: for there57 is no difference: [23] For all have58 sinned, and come59 short of60 the glory of God; [24] Being justified61 freely by his grace through62 the redemption that is in Christ Jesus: [25] Whom God hath set forth63 [to be64] a propitiation through65 faith in his blood, to declare66 his righteousness for the remission67 of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God; [26] To declare, [I say], at this time his righteousness: that he68 might be just, and69 the justifier of him which believeth in Jesus. [27] Where70 [is] boasting then? It is excluded. By what law? of works71? Nay: but by72 the law of faith. [28] Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith without the deeds of the law.73 [29] [Is he] the God of the Jews only? [is he] not also of the Gentiles? Yes, of the Gentiles also:74 [30] Seeing [it is] one God, which shall justify the circumcision by faith, and uncircumcision through faith.75 [31] Do we76 then make void the law through faith? God77 forbid: yea78, we establish the law.
