⥃The Road to Damascus [ Acts 22:1–21 † Acts 26:1–23 ]
[1] And Saul2, yet breathing3 out threatenings and slaughter against the disciples of the Lord, went unto the high priest,4 [2] And desired5 of him letters to Damascus to the synagogues6, that if he found any of this way7, whether they were men or women, he might bring them bound unto Jerusalem. [3] And as8 he journeyed, he came near Damascus: and suddenly there shined round about him a light9 from heaven: [4] And he fell10 to the earth, and heard a voice saying unto him, Saul11, Saul, why12 persecutest thou me? [5] And he said, Who13 art thou, Lord? And the Lord said, I am14 Jesus whom thou persecutest: [it is15] hard for thee to kick against the pricks. [6] And he trembling16 and astonished said, Lord, what17 wilt thou have me to do? And the Lord [said] unto him, Arise18, and go into the city, and it19 shall be told thee what thou must do. [7] And the men which journeyed with him stood speechless, hearing a voice, but seeing no man.20 [8] And Saul arose from the earth; and when his eyes were opened, he saw21 no man: but they led him by the hand, and brought [him] into Damascus. [9] And he was three days without sight, and neither did eat nor drink.22
⥃Ananias Baptizes Saul
[10] And there23 was a certain disciple at Damascus, named Ananias; and to24 him said the Lord in a vision, Ananias25. And he said, Behold26, I [am here], Lord. [11] And the Lord [said] unto him, Arise27, and go into the street which is called Straight, and enquire in the house of Judas for [one] called Saul28, of Tarsus: for29, behold, he prayeth, [12] And hath seen in a vision a man named Ananias coming in, and putting [his] hand on him, that he might receive his sight.30 [13] Then Ananias answered, Lord31, I have heard by many of this man, how32 much evil he hath done to thy saints at Jerusalem: [14] And here33 he hath authority from the chief priests to bind all that call34 on thy name. [15] But the Lord said unto him, Go35 thy way: for he is a chosen36 vessel unto me, to bear37 my name before the Gentiles, and kings38, and the children39 of Israel: [16] For I will40 shew him how great things he must suffer for41 my name’s sake. [17] And Ananias42 went his way, and entered into the house; and putting43 his hands on him said, Brother44 Saul, the Lord45, [even] Jesus, that appeared unto thee in the way as thou camest, hath sent me, that thou46 mightest receive thy sight, and be47 filled with the Holy Ghost. [18] And immediately48 there fell from his eyes as it had been scales: and he received sight forthwith, and arose, and was49 baptized. [19] And when50 he had received meat, he was strengthen51ed. Then was Saul certain days with the disciples which were at Damascus.
⥃Saul Preaches at Damascus
[20] And straightway52 he preached Christ in the synagogues, that53 he is the Son of God. [21] But all that heard [him] were amazed54, and said; Is not55 this he that destroyed56 them which called on this name in Jerusalem, and came hither for that intent, that he might bring them bound unto the chief priests? [22] But Saul increased57 the more in strength, and confounded58 the Jews which dwelt at Damascus, proving59 that this is very Christ.
⥃The Escape from Damascus
[23] And after that many days were fulfilled, the Jews60 took counsel to kill him:61 [24] But their62 laying await was known of Saul. And they63 watched the gates day and night to kill him. [25] Then the disciples64 took him by night, and let65 [him] down by the wall in a basket.
⥃Saul in Jerusalem
[26] And when66 Saul was come to Jerusalem, he assayed67 to join himself to the disciples: but68 they were all afraid of him, and believed not that he was a disciple. [27] But Barnabas69 took him, and brought [him] to the apostles70, and declared unto them how he had seen71 the Lord in the way, and that he had spoken to him, and how72 he had preached boldly at Damascus in the name of Jesus. [28] And he was with them coming73 in and going out at Jerusalem. [29] And he spake74 boldly in the name of the Lord Jesus, and disputed75 against the Grecians76: but77 they went about to slay him. [30] [Which] when78 the brethren knew, they brought him down to Cesarea79, and sent him forth to Tarsus80.
⥃The Healing of Aeneas
[31] Then had the churches81 rest throughout all Judea and Galilee and Samaria, and were edified82; and walking83 in the fear of the Lord, and in84 the comfort of the Holy Ghost, were multiplied85.
[32] And it came to pas86s, as Peter passed throughout all [quarters], he came down also to the saints87 which dwelt at Lydda88.89 [33] And there he found a certain man named Eneas, which90 had kept his bed eight years, and was91 sick of the palsy. [34] And Peter said unto him, Eneas, Jesus Christ92 maketh thee whole: arise, and make thy bed. And he arose immediately. [35] And all93 that dwelt at Lydda and Saron94 saw him, and turned95 to the Lord.
⥃The Raising of Tabitha [ John 11:38–44 ]
[36] [¶]Now there was at Joppa96 a certain disciple named Tabitha, which by interpretation is called Dorcas97: this woman was full98 of good works and almsdeeds99 which she did. [37] And it came to pass in those days, that she was100 sick, and died: whom when they had washed, they laid [her] in an101 upper chamber. [38] And forasmuch as Lydda102 was nigh to Joppa, and the disciples had heard that Peter was there, they sent unto him two men, desiring103 [him] that he would not delay104 to come to them. [39] Then Peter arose and went with them. When he was come, they brought him into the upper chamber: and all105 the widows stood by him weeping, and shewing106 the coats and garments which Dorcas made, while107 she was with them. [40] But Peter put108 them all forth, and kneeled109 down, and prayed110; and turning [him] to the body said, Tabitha, arise. And she opened111 her eyes: and when she saw Peter, she sat up. [41] And he gave112 her [his] hand, and lifted her up, and when he had called the saints and widows113, presented her alive. [42] And it was known throughout all Joppa; and many114 believed in the Lord. [43] And it came to pass, that he tarried many days in Joppa with one115 Simon a tanner.

Maundrell states that after visiting the place of vision, "about half a mile distant from the city eastward," they returned to the city, and "were shewn the gate where St. Paul was let down in a basket. This gate is at present walled up, by reason of its vicinity to the east gate, which renders it of little use." ↩
