⥃The Triumph of Faith
[1] Therefore being2 justified by faith, we have3 peace with God through4 our Lord Jesus Christ: [2] By whom5 also we have access by faith into this grace wherein6 we stand, and rejoice7 in hope of the glory8 of God. [3] And not only [so], but we9 glory in tribulations also: knowing10 that tribulation worketh patience; [4] And patience11, experience; and experience12, hope: [5] And hope13 maketh not ashamed; because14 the love of God is shed15 abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us.
⥃Christ’s Sacrifice for the Ungodly [ John 3:1–21 ]
[6] For16 when we were yet without17 strength, in due time18 Christ19 died for the ungodly20. [7] For scarcely21 for a righteous man will one die: yet peradventure for a good22 man some23 would even dare to die. [8] But God commendeth24 his love toward us, in that25, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. [9] Much more then, being26 now justified by his blood, we shall27 be saved from wrath through him. [10] For if, when28 we were enemies, we were reconciled29 to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall30 be saved by his life. [11] And not only [so], but we31 also joy in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom32 we have now received the atonement33.
⥃Death in Adam, Life in Christ [ Genesis 3:1–7 ]
[12] Wherefore, as by34 one man sin entered into the world, and death35 by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that36 all37 have sinned: [13] (For until38 the law sin was in the world: but sin39 is not imputed when there is no law. [14] Nevertheless death40 reigned from Adam to Moses, even41 over them that had not sinned after the similitude of Adam’s transgression, who is the figure42 of him that was to come. [15] But not43 as the offence, so also [is] the free gift. For if through the offence of one many44 be dead, much45 more the grace of God, and the gift46 by grace, [which is] by one man, Jesus Christ, hath47 abounded unto many. [16] And not as [it was] by one that sinned, [so is] the gift: for the48 judgment [was] by one to condemnation, but the free49 gift [is] of many offences unto justification. [17] For if50 by one man’s offence51 death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance52 of grace and of the gift53 of righteousness shall reign54 in life by one, Jesus Christ.) [18] Therefore as by the offence55 of one [judgment came] upon56 all men to condemnation; even so by the righteousness57 of one [the free gift came] upon all men58 unto justification of life. [19] For as by one59 man’s disobedience many were made sinners, so by60 the obedience of one shall many be made righteous. [20] Moreover the law61 entered, that the offence might abound. But62 where sin abounded, grace did much more abound: [21] That63 as sin hath reigned unto death, even so might grace64 reign through65 righteousness unto66 eternal life by Jesus Christ our Lord.

Or "type (pattern, or resemblance, τυπον G5179), of him who was to come," i.e., THE MESSIAH. Mr. Baxter remarks, It is indeed interesting to compare, on Scripture authority, Adam as the root of sin and death to all, with CHRIST, who is to all true Christians the root of holiness and life. ↩
