⥃The Coming Judgment ^{[ Genesis 7:1–24 † Jude 1:17–23 ]}

[1] This second epistle², beloved, I now write unto you; in [both] which I stir³ up your pure⁴ minds by way⁵ of remembrance: [2] That ye may⁶ be mindful of the words which were spoken before by the holy prophets, and of⁷ the commandment of us the apostles of the Lord and Saviour: [3] Knowing this first, that there⁸ shall come in the last days scoffers⁹, walking¹⁰ after their own lusts, [4] And saying, Where¹¹ is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as [they were] from the beginning¹² of the creation. [5] For this they willingly¹³ are ignorant of, that by the word¹⁴ of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing¹⁵ out of the water and in the water: [6] Whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished:¹⁶ [7] But the heavens¹⁷ and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against¹⁸ the day of judgment and perdition¹⁹ of ungodly men.

⥃The Day of the Lord ^{[ Zephaniah 1:7–18 † Malachi 4:1–6 † 1 Thessalonians 5:1–11 ]}

[8] But, beloved, be not²⁰ ignorant of this one thing, that one²¹ day [is] with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. [9] The Lord is not²² slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is²³ longsuffering to us-ward, not willing²⁴ that any should perish, but that²⁵ all should come to repentance. [10] But the day²⁶ of the Lord will come as a²⁷ thief in the night; in the which²⁸ the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements²⁹ shall melt³⁰ with fervent heat, the earth³¹ also and the works that are therein shall be burned up. [11] [Seeing] then [that] all these³² things shall be dissolved, what³³ manner [of persons] ought ye to be in [all³⁴] holy conversation and godliness³⁵, [12] Looking³⁶ for and hasting unto the coming³⁷ of the day of God, wherein the heavens³⁸ being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt³⁹ with fervent heat? [13] Nevertheless we, according⁴⁰ to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness.

⥃Final Exhortations

[14] Wherefore, beloved, seeing⁴¹ that ye look for such things, be diligent⁴² that ye may be found of him in peace⁴³, without spot, and blameless. [15] And account⁴⁴ [that] the longsuffering of our Lord [is] salvation; even as our beloved⁴⁵ brother Paul also according⁴⁶ to the wisdom given unto him hath written unto you; [16] As also in all⁴⁷ [his] epistles, speaking⁴⁸ in them of these things; in which are some things hard⁴⁹ to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable⁵⁰ wrest⁵¹, as [they do] also the other⁵² scriptures, unto their own⁵³ destruction. [17] Ye therefore, beloved, seeing⁵⁴ ye know [these things] before, beware⁵⁵ lest ye also, being⁵⁶ led away with the error of the wicked, fall from⁵⁷ your own stedfastness. [18] But grow⁵⁸ in grace, and [in] the knowledge⁵⁹ of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him⁶⁰ [be] glory both now and for ever. Amen⁶¹.
