⥃Jesus Our Advocate

[1] My little2 children, these3 things write I unto you, that4 ye sin not. And if5 any man sin, we have6 an advocate with the Father7, Jesus Christ the righteous8: [2] And he is9 the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for [the10 sins of] the whole world. [3] And hereby11 we do know that we know12 him, if we13 keep his commandments. [4] He that saith14, I know15 him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a16 liar, and the truth is not in him. [5] But whoso17 keepeth his word, in him18 verily is the love of God perfected: hereby19 know we that we are in him. [6] He that saith20 he21 abideth in him ought himself also so to walk22, even as he walked.

⥃A New Commandment

[7] Brethren, I write23 no new commandment unto you, but24 an old commandment which ye had from the beginning. The old commandment is the word which ye have heard from the beginning. [8] Again, a new25 commandment I write unto you, which26 thing is true in him and in you: because the darkness27 is past, and the28 true light now shineth. [9] He that saith29 he is30 in the light, and hateth31 his brother, is in32 darkness even until now. [10] He that loveth33 his brother abideth in the light, and there is none occasion of stumbling34 in him. [11] But he that35 hateth his brother is in darkness, and walketh36 in darkness, and knoweth not whither he goeth, because37 that darkness hath blinded his eyes. [12] I write38 unto you, little39 children, because your40 sins are for41given you for his name’s sake. [13] I write unto you, fathers42, because43 ye have known him [that44 is] from the beginning. I write unto you, young45 men, because46 ye have overcome the wicked47 one. I write unto you, little48 children, because ye have known49 the Father. [14] I have written unto you, fathers50, because ye have known him [that is] from the beginning. I have written unto you, young men, because ye are51 strong, and the word52 of God abideth in you, and ye have overcome53 the wicked one.

⥃Do Not Love the World

[15] Love not54 the world, neither the things [that are] in the world. If55 any man love the world, the love56 of the Father is not in him. [16] For all that [is] in the world, the lust of the flesh57, and the lust58 of the eyes, and the pride59 of life, is not60 of the Father, but is of the world. [17] And the world61 passeth away, and the lust thereof: but62 he that doeth the will of God abideth63 for ever.

⥃Beware of Antichrists

[18] Little64 children, it is65 the last time: and as ye have66 heard that antichrist67 shall come, even now are there many antichrists; whereby68 we know that it is the last time. [19] They went out69 from us, but they were not of us; for70 if they had been of us, they would [no doubt] have continued with us: but [they went out], that they might71 be made manifest that they were not all of us. [20] But ye have72 an unction from the Holy73 One, and ye74 know all things. [21] I have not written unto you because ye know not75 the truth, but because ye know it, and that no lie is of the truth. [22] Who76 is a liar but he that77 denieth that Jesus is the Christ? He is78 antichrist, that denieth the Father and the Son. [23] Whosoever denieth79 the Son, the same hath not the Father: [[but]][ he that acknowledgeth the Son hath the Father also].

⥃Remain in Christ

[24] Let that therefore abide80 in you, which81 ye have heard from the beginning. If that which ye have heard from the beginning shall remain in you, ye also82 shall continue in the Son, and in the Father. [25] And this is the promise that he hath promised us, [even] eternal life.83 [26] These [things] have I written unto you concerning84 them that seduce you. [27] But the anointing85 which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye86 need not that any man teach you: but87 as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall88 abide in him89. [28] And now, little90 children, abide in him; that, when91 he shall appear, we may have92 confidence, and not be ashamed before him at his93 coming. [29] If ye know that he is94 righteous, ye know95 that every96 one that doeth righteousness is born97 of him.
