⥃Paul’s Greeting to Timothy ^{[ 1 Timothy 1:1–2 ]}

[1] Paul, an² apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God, according to the promise³ of life which is in Christ Jesus, [2] To Timothy⁴, [my] dearly beloved son: Grace⁵, mercy, [and] peace, from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord.

⥃Faithfulness under Persecution ^{[ Matthew 10:16–25 ]}

[3] I thank⁶ God, whom⁷ I serve from [my] forefathers with⁸ pure conscience, that⁹ without ceasing I have remembrance of thee in my prayers night¹⁰ and day; [4] Greatly desiring¹¹ to see thee, being¹² mindful of thy tears, that I may be filled¹³ with joy; [5] When I call¹⁴ to remembrance the unfeigned¹⁵ faith that is in thee, which dwelt first in thy grandmother Lois, and thy mother¹⁶ Eunice; and I am¹⁷ persuaded that in thee also. [6] Wherefore I put¹⁸ thee in remembrance that¹⁹ thou stir up the gift of God, which is in thee by the²⁰ putting on of my hands. [7] For God hath not given us the spirit²¹ of fear; but²² of power, and of love²³, and of a sound²⁴ mind. [8] Be not thou therefore ashamed²⁵ of the testimony²⁶ of our Lord, nor of me his prisoner²⁷: but be thou²⁸ partaker of the afflictions of the gospel according²⁹ to the power of God; [9] Who hath³⁰ saved us, and called³¹ [us] with an holy calling, not³² according to our works, but according to his³³ own purpose and grace, which³⁴ was given us in Christ Jesus before³⁵ the world began, [10] But is now³⁶ made manifest by the appearing of our³⁷ Saviour Jesus Christ, who³⁸ hath abolished³⁹ death, and hath⁴⁰ brought life and immortality to light through the gospel: [11] Whereunto I am appointed a preacher, and an apostle, and a teacher of the Gentiles.⁴¹ [12] For the which⁴² cause I also suffer these things: nevertheless I am⁴³ not ashamed: for I⁴⁴ know whom I have believed⁴⁵, and am persuaded⁴⁶ that he is⁴⁷ able to keep⁴⁸ that which I⁴⁹ have committed unto him against⁵⁰ that day.

⥃Holding to Sound Teaching

[13] Hold⁵¹ fast the form⁵² of sound words, which⁵³ thou hast heard of me, in faith⁵⁴ and love which is in Christ Jesus. [14] That good⁵⁵ thing which was committed unto thee keep by the⁵⁶ Holy Ghost which dwelleth⁵⁷ in us. [15] This thou knowest, that⁵⁸ all they which are in Asia be⁵⁹ turned away from me; of whom are Phygellus and Hermogenes. [16] The Lord⁶⁰ give mercy unto the house⁶¹ of Onesiphorus; for he oft refreshed⁶² me, and was⁶³ not ashamed of my⁶⁴ chain: [17] But, when he was in Rome, he sought me out very diligently, and found [me].⁶⁵ [18] The Lord grant unto him that he⁶⁶ may find mercy⁶⁷ of the Lord in that⁶⁸ day: and in how many things he ministered⁶⁹ unto me at Ephesus⁷⁰, thou knowest very well.
