⥃Grace and Perseverance ^{[ Hebrews 12:1–3 ]}

[1] Thou therefore, my² son, be³ strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus. [2] And the things⁴ that thou hast heard of me among⁵ many⁶ witnesses, the same⁷ commit thou to faithful⁸ men, who⁹ shall be able to teach others also. [3] Thou therefore endure¹⁰ hardness, as a good¹¹ soldier of Jesus Christ. [4] No man that warreth¹² entangleth¹³ himself with the affairs of [this] life; that he¹⁴ may please him who hath chosen him to be a soldier. [5] And if a man also strive¹⁵ for masteries, [yet] is he¹⁶ not crowned, except he strive lawfully. [6] The husbandman¹⁷ that laboureth must be first partaker of the fruits¹⁸. [7] Consider¹⁹ what I say; and²⁰ the Lord give thee understanding in all things. [8] Remember²¹ that Jesus²² Christ of the seed of David was raised²³ from the dead according²⁴ to my gospel: [9] Wherein I suffer²⁵ trouble, as²⁶ an evil doer, [even²⁷] unto bonds; but²⁸ the word of God is not bound. [10] Therefore I endure²⁹ all things for³⁰ the elect’s sakes, that they may also obtain³¹ the salvation which is in Christ Jesus with³² eternal glory. [11] [It is] a faithful³³ saying: For³⁴ if we be dead with [him], we shall³⁵ also live with [him]: [12] If we suffer³⁶, we shall also reign with [him]: if we deny³⁷ [him], he also will deny us: [13] If we believe not, [yet³⁸] he abideth faithful: he cannot³⁹ deny himself.

⥃The Lord’s Approved Workman

[14] Of these things put⁴⁰ [them] in remembrance, charging⁴¹ [them] before the Lord that⁴² they strive not about words to no⁴³ profit, [but] to the subverting⁴⁴ of the hearers. [15] Study⁴⁵ to shew thyself approved⁴⁶ unto God, a workman⁴⁷ that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly⁴⁸ dividing the word of truth. [16] But shun⁴⁹ profane [and] vain babblings: for⁵⁰ they will increase unto more ungodliness. [17] And their word⁵¹ will eat as doth a canker⁵²: of whom is Hymeneus⁵³ and Philetus; [18] Who concerning⁵⁴ the truth have erred, saying that⁵⁵ the resurrection is past already; and overthrow⁵⁶ the faith of some. [19] Nevertheless the foundation⁵⁷ of God standeth⁵⁸ sure⁵⁹, having⁶⁰ this seal, The Lord⁶¹ knoweth them that are his. And, Let⁶² every one that nameth the name of Christ depart⁶³ from iniquity. [20] But in a⁶⁴ great house there are not only vessels⁶⁵ of gold and of silver, but also of wood and of earth; and some to honour⁶⁶, and some to dishonour. [21] If a man therefore purge⁶⁷ himself from these, he shall be a vessel⁶⁸ unto honour, sanctified, and meet⁶⁹ for the master’s use, [and] prepared⁷⁰ unto every good work. [22] Flee⁷¹ also youthful⁷² lusts: but follow⁷³ righteousness, faith, charity⁷⁴, peace⁷⁵, with them that call⁷⁶ on the Lord out⁷⁷ of a pure heart. [23] But foolish and unlearned questions avoid, knowing that they do gender strifes.⁷⁸ [24] And the servant⁷⁹ of the Lord must⁸⁰ not strive⁸¹; but⁸² be gentle unto all [men], apt⁸³ to teach, patient⁸⁴, [25] In⁸⁵ meekness instructing⁸⁶ those that oppose themselves; if⁸⁷ God peradventure⁸⁸ will give them repentance⁸⁹ to the acknowledging of the truth; [26] And [that] they may recover⁹⁰ themselves out⁹¹ of the snare of the devil, who are⁹² taken captive⁹³ by him at⁹⁴ his will.
