(KJV) 1 Thessalonians 5¹

⥃The Day of the Lord ^{[ Zephaniah 1:7–18 † Malachi 4:1–6 † 2 Peter 3:8–13 ]}

[1] But of the times² and the seasons, brethren, ye³ have no need that I write unto you. [2] For yourselves know⁴ perfectly that the day⁵ of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night. [3] For when they shall say, Peace⁶ and safety; then⁷ sudden destruction cometh upon them, as⁸ travail upon a woman with child; and they⁹ shall not escape. [4] But ye, brethren, are¹⁰ not in darkness, that that day should overtake¹¹ you as a thief. [5] Ye are all the children of light, and the children of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness.¹² [6] Therefore let us not¹³ sleep, as [do] others; but let us watch¹⁴ and be sober¹⁵. [7] For they that sleep¹⁶ sleep in the night; and they¹⁷ that be drunken are drunken in the night. [8] But let us, who¹⁸ are of the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate¹⁹ of faith and love; and for an helmet, the hope²⁰ of salvation. [9] For God hath not²¹ appointed us to wrath, but to obtain²² salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ, [10] Who died²³ for us, that, whether²⁴ we wake or sleep, we should live together with him. [11] Wherefore²⁵ comfort²⁶ yourselves together, and edify²⁷ one another, even²⁸ as also ye do.

⥃Christian Living

[12] And we beseech you, brethren, to know²⁹ them which labour³⁰ among you, and are³¹ over you in the Lord, and admonish³² you; [13] And to esteem³³ them very highly in love for their work’s sake. [And] be³⁴ at peace among yourselves. [14] Now we exhort³⁵ you³⁶, brethren, warn³⁷ them that³⁸ are unruly³⁹, comfort⁴⁰ the feebleminded, support⁴¹ the weak, be⁴² patient toward all [men]. [15] See⁴³ that none⁴⁴ render evil for evil unto any [man]; but ever⁴⁵ follow that which is good, both among yourselves, and⁴⁶ to all [men]. [16] Rejoice⁴⁷ evermore. [17] Pray⁴⁸ without ceasing. [18] In every⁴⁹ thing give thanks: for⁵⁰ this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you. [19] Quench⁵¹ not the Spirit⁵². [20] Despise not prophesyings.⁵³ [21] Prove⁵⁴ all things; hold⁵⁵ fast that which is good. [22] Abstain from all appearance of evil.⁵⁶

⥃Final Blessings and Instructions

[23] And the very God⁵⁷ of peace sanctify⁵⁸ you wholly; and [I pray God] your⁵⁹ whole spirit and soul and body be preserved⁶⁰ blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. [24] Faithful⁶¹ [is] he that calleth⁶² you, who⁶³ also will do [it]. [25] Brethren, pray for us.⁶⁴ [26] Greet all the brethren with an holy kiss.⁶⁵ [27] I charge⁶⁶ you by the Lord that⁶⁷ this epistle be read unto all the holy⁶⁸ brethren. [28] The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ [be] with you. Amen.
