⥃Paul’s Greeting to Titus [ 2 Corinthians 8:16–24 ]
[1] Paul, a servant2 of God, and an apostle of Jesus Christ, according to the faith3 of God’s elect, and the acknowledging4 of the truth which is after5 godliness; [2] In6 hope7 of eternal8 life, which God9, that cannot lie, promised10 before11 the world began; [3] But hath in12 due times manifested13 his word through preaching, which14 is committed unto me according to the commandment of God15 our Saviour; [4] To Titus16, [mine17] own son after the common18 faith: Grace19, mercy, [and] peace, from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ our20 Saviour.
⥃Appointing Elders on Crete [ 1 Timothy 3:1–7 † 1 Peter 5:1–4 ]
[5] For this cause left I thee in Crete21, that thou shouldest set22 in order the things that are wanting23, and24 ordain elders in every city, as I had appointed thee:25 [6] If any26 be blameless, the husband27 of one wife, having28 faithful children not29 accused of riot or30 unruly. [7] For a bishop31 must be blameless, as32 the steward of God; not selfwilled33, not soon34 angry, no35t given to wine36, no striker, not given to filthy37 lucre; [8] But a lover of hospitality38, a lover of good39 men40, sober41, just, holy, temperate; [9] Holding42 fast43 the faithful word as he hath been taught44, that he may be able by sound45 doctrine both to exhort and to convince46 the gainsayers.
⥃Correcting False Teachers [ 1 Timothy 1:3–11 ]
[10] For there47 are many unruly and vain talkers and deceivers, specially48 they of the circumcision: [11] Whose mouths49 must be stopped, who subvert50 whole houses, teaching things which they ought not, for filthy51 lucre’s sake. [12] One of52 themselves, [even] a prophet of their own, said, The Cretians [are] alway liars53, evil beasts, slow bellies. [13] This witness is true. Wherefore rebuke54 them sharply, that55 they may be sound in the faith; [14] Not giving heed to Jewish56 fables, and commandments57 of men, that turn58 from the truth. [15] Unto the pure59 all things [are] pure: but60 unto them that are defiled and unbelieving [is] nothing pure; but even their61 mind and conscience is defiled. [16] They profess62 that they know God; but in works they deny [him], being63 abominable, and disobedient64, and unto65 every good work reprobate66.
