⥃God Presides in the Divine Assembly
A Psalm of Asaph2.
[1] God3 standeth in the congregation of the mighty; he judgeth among the gods4. [2] How5 long will ye judge6 unjustly, and accept7 the persons of the wicked? Selah. [3] Defend8 the poor and fatherless: do9 justice to the afflicted and needy. [4] Deliver10 the poor and needy: rid11 [them] out of the hand of the wicked. [5] They12 know not13, neither will they understand; they walk14 on in darkness: all the15 foundations of the earth are out of course16. [6] I have said, Ye [are] gods; and all of you [are] children of the most High.17 [7] But18 ye shall die like men19, and fall20 like one of the princes. [8] Arise21, O God, judge the earth: for thou22 shalt inherit all nations.

Ps 82:1, The psalmist, having exhorted the judges, Ps 82:5, and reproved their negligence, Ps 82:8, prays God to judge. Some refer this psalm to the time of David, and others to that of Hezekiah; but it is more probable that it was composed when Jehoshaphat reformed the courts throughout his kingdom. 2Chr 19:6, 2Chr 19:7 ↩
