⥃O God, Be Not Silent
A Song [or] Psalm of Asaph2.
[1] Keep3 not thou silence, O God: hold not thy peace, and be not4 still, O God. [2] For, lo5, thine enemies make a tumult: and they that hate6 thee have lifted7 up the head. [3] They8 have taken crafty counsel against thy people, and consulted against thy hidden9 ones. [4] They have said, Come, and let us cut them off from [being] a nation; that the name of Israel may be no more in remembrance.10 [5] For11 they have consulted together with one consent12: they are13 confederate against thee: [6] The tabernacles14 of Edom15, and the Ishmaelites; of Moab, and the Hagarenes16; [7] Gebal17, and Ammon, and Amalek; the Philistines with the inhabitants of Tyre; [8] Assur18 also is joined with them: they have holpen19 the children20 of Lot. Selah. [9] Do unto them as [unto21] the Midianites; as [to] Sisera22, as [to] Jabin, at the brook of Kison23: [10] [Which] perished at En–dor24: they became [as] dung25 for the earth. [11] Make their nobles like Oreb26, and like Zeeb: yea, all their princes as Zebah27, and as Zalmunna: [12] Who said, Let us take to ourselves the houses of God in possession.28 [13] O my29 God, make them like30 a wheel; as the31 stubble before the wind. [14] As the fire32 burneth a wood, and as the flame33 setteth the mountains on fire; [15] So persecute them with thy tempest, and make them afraid with thy storm.34 [16] Fill their faces with shame; that they may seek thy name, O Lord.35 [17] Let them be confounded and troubled for ever; yea, let them be put to shame, and perish:36 [18] That [men37] may know that thou, whose38 name alone [is] Jehovah, [art] the most39 high over all the earth.

Tents are mentioned because it was the custom of these people, particularly the Ishmaelites, to live a migratory or wandering life; encamping sometimes in one place, and sometimes in another, as they found convenience for themselves and cattle; a custom retained by their descendants to the present day. ↩
