(KJV) Hosea 8¹

⥃Israel Will Reap the Whirlwind

[1] [Set] the trumpet² to thy mouth³. [He shall come] as⁴ an eagle against the house⁵ of the Lord, because they have transgressed⁶ my covenant, and trespassed against my law. [2] Israel shall cry unto me, My God, we know thee.⁷ [3] Israel hath cast⁸ off [the thing that is] good: the enemy⁹ shall pursue him. [4] They have set¹⁰ up kings, but not by me: they have made princes, and I knew [it] not: of¹¹ their silver and their gold have they made them idols, that they¹² may be cut off.

[5] [¶]Thy calf¹³, O Samaria, hath cast [thee] off; mine¹⁴ anger is kindled against them: how¹⁵ long [will it be] ere they attain to innocency? [6] For from¹⁶ Israel [was] it also: the workman¹⁷ made it; therefore it [is] not God: but the calf¹⁸ of Samaria shall¹⁹ be broken in pieces. [7] For they have sown²⁰ the wind, and they shall reap the whirlwind: it hath²¹ no stalk²²: the bud shall yield no meal: if so be it yield, the strangers²³ shall swallow it up. [8] Israel is swallowed²⁴ up: now shall they be among²⁵ the Gentiles as a vessel²⁶ wherein [is] no pleasure. [9] For they²⁷ are gone up to Assyria, a wild²⁸ ass alone by himself: Ephraim hath²⁹ hired lovers³⁰. [10] Yea, though they have hired among the nations, now³¹ will I gather them, and they shall sorrow a little³² for³³ the burden of the king³⁴ of princes. [11] Because Ephraim hath made many³⁵ altars³⁶ to sin, altars shall be unto him to sin. [12] I have written³⁷ to him the great things of my law, [but³⁸] they were counted as a strange thing. [13] They sacrifice³⁹ flesh [for] the sacrifices of mine offerings, and eat [it]; [but⁴⁰] the Lord accepteth them not; now⁴¹ will he remember their iniquity, and visit their sins: they shall⁴² return to Egypt. [14] For Israel hath forgotten⁴³ his Maker⁴⁴, and buildeth⁴⁵ temples; and Judah⁴⁶ hath multiplied fenced cities: but I will send⁴⁷ a fire upon his cities, and it shall devour the palaces thereof.
