(KJV) Hosea 7¹

⥃Ephraim’s Iniquity

[1] When I would² have healed Israel, then the iniquity³ of Ephraim was discovered, and the wickedness⁴ of Samaria: for they commit⁵ falsehood; and the thief cometh in, [and] the troop⁶ of robbers spoileth⁷ without. [2] And they consider not in⁸ their hearts [that] I remember⁹ all their wickedness: now their own¹⁰ doings have beset them about; they are before¹¹ my face. [3] They make the king glad with their wickedness, and the princes with their lies.¹² [4] They [are] all¹³ adulterers, as¹⁴ an oven heated by the baker, [who] ceaseth¹⁵ from raising¹⁶ after he hath kneaded the dough, until it be leavened. [5] In the day¹⁷ of our king the princes have made¹⁸ [him] sick with bottles of wine¹⁹; he stretched²⁰ out his hand with scorners²¹. [6] For they²² have made ready²³ their heart like an oven, whiles they lie in wait: their baker sleepeth all the night; in the morning it burneth as a flaming fire. [7] They are all hot as an oven, and have devoured²⁴ their judges; all their kings are fallen: [there²⁵ is] none among them that calleth unto me. [8] Ephraim, he hath²⁶ mixed himself among the people; Ephraim is a cake²⁷ not turned. [9] Strangers have devoured²⁸ his strength, and he knoweth [it] not: yea, gray hairs are here and there²⁹ upon him, yet he knoweth not. [10] And the pride³⁰ of Israel testifieth to his face: and they³¹ do not return to the Lord their God, nor³² seek him for all this.

[11] [¶]Ephraim also is like a silly³³ dove without³⁴ heart: they call³⁵ to Egypt, they go to Assyria. [12] When they shall go, I will spread³⁶ my net upon them; I will bring³⁷ them down as the fowls of the heaven; I will chastise them, as their³⁸ congregation hath heard. [13] Woe³⁹ unto them! for they have fled⁴⁰ from me: destruction⁴¹ unto them! because they have transgressed against me: though⁴² I have redeemed them, yet they have spoken⁴³ lies against me. [14] And they have not⁴⁴ cried unto me with their heart, when⁴⁵ they howled upon their beds: they assemble⁴⁶ themselves for corn and wine, [and] they rebel against me. [15] Though I have⁴⁷ bound⁴⁸ [and] strengthened their arms, yet do they imagine⁴⁹ mischief against me. [16] They return⁵⁰, [but] not to the most High: they are like⁵¹ a deceitful bow: their princes shall fall by the sword for the rage⁵² of their tongue: this⁵³ [shall be] their derision in the land of Egypt.
