⥃The Burden against Israel’s Enemies

[1] The burden2 of the word of the Lord in the land of Hadrach, and Damascus3 [shall be] the rest4 thereof: when5 the eyes of man, as of all the tribes of Israel, [shall be] toward the Lord.6 [2] And Hamath7 also shall border thereby; Tyrus8, and Zidon9, though it be10 very wise. [3] And Tyrus did build11 herself a strong hold, and heaped12 up silver as the dust, and fine gold as the mire of the streets. [4] Behold, the Lord13 will cast her out, and he will14 smite her power in the sea; and she shall15 be devoured with fire. [5] Ashkelon16 shall see [it], and fear; Gaza also [shall see it], and be17 very sorrowful, and Ekron; for18 her expectation shall be ashamed; and the king shall perish from Gaza, and Ashkelon shall not be inhabited. [6] And a bastard shall dwell in Ashdod, and I will cut off the pride of the Philistines.19 [7] And I will20 take away his blood21 out of his mouth, and his abominations from between his teeth: but he that22 remaineth, even he, [shall be] for our God, and he shall be as a governor23 in Judah, and Ekron as a Jebusite24. [8] And I will25 encamp about mine house because of the army, because of him that passeth by26, and because of him that returneth: and no27 oppressor shall pass through them any more: for28 now have I seen with mine eyes.

[9] Rejoice29 greatly, O daughter of Zion; shout, O daughter of Jerusalem: behold30, thy King cometh unto thee: he [is31] just, and having salvation32; lowly33, and riding upon an ass, and upon a colt the foal of an ass. [10] And I will34 cut off the chariot from Ephraim, and the horse from Jerusalem, and the battle35 bow shall be cut off: and he shall36 speak peace unto the heathen: and his dominion37 [shall be] from sea [even] to sea, and from the river38 [even] to the ends of the earth. [11] As39 for thee also, by the blood of thy covenant40 I have41 sent forth thy prisoners out42 of the pit wherein [is] no water.

[12] Turn43 you to the strong hold, ye prisoners of hope: even44 to day do I declare [that] I will45 render double unto thee; [13] When I have bent46 Judah for me, filled the bow with Ephraim, and raised47 up thy sons, O Zion, against48 thy sons, O Greece, and made49 thee as the sword of a mighty man.

⥃The LORD Will Save His People

[14] And the Lord shall be seen50 over them, and his51 arrow shall go forth as the lightning: and the Lord God shall blow52 the trumpet, and shall go with whirlwinds53 of the south. [15] The Lord of hosts shall defend them; and they shall devour54, and subdue55 with sling stones56; and they shall drink57, [and] make a noise as through wine; and they shall be filled like bowls58, [and] as the corners59 of the altar. [16] And the Lord their God shall save60 them in that day as61 the flock of his people: for they [shall be as] the stones of a crown, lifted62 up as an ensign upon his land. [17] For how great [is] his goodness63, and how great [is] his beauty64! corn65 shall make the young men cheerful66, and new wine the maids.
