The Coming Deliverance of Jerusalem

[1] The burden2 of the word of the Lord for3 Israel, saith the Lord, which4 stretcheth forth the heavens, and layeth the foundation of the earth, and formeth5 the spirit of man within him.6 [2] Behold, I will make Jerusalem a cup7 of trembling8 unto all the people round about, when they9 shall be in the siege both against Judah [and] against Jerusalem.

[3] [¶]And in that10 day will I make Jerusalem a burdensome11 stone for all people: all that burden themselves with it shall be cut in pieces, though12 all the people of the earth be gathered together against it. [4] In that day13, saith the Lord, I will smite14 every horse with astonishment, and his rider with madness: and I will open15 mine eyes upon the house of Judah, and will smite every horse of the people with blindness. [5] And the governors16 of Judah shall say in their heart, The inhabitants17 of Jerusalem [shall be] my strength in the Lord of hosts their God.

[6] [¶]In that day will I make the governors of Judah like an hearth18 of fire among the wood, and like a torch of fire in a sheaf; and they19 shall devour all the people round about, on the right20 hand and on the left: and Jerusalem shall21 be inhabited again in her own place, [even] in Jerusalem. [7] The Lord also shall save22 the tents of Judah first, that the glory of the house of David and the glory of the inhabitants of Jerusalem do23 not magnify [themselves] against Judah. [8] In that day shall the Lord defend24 the25 inhabitants of Jerusalem; and he that is feeble26 among them at that day shall be as David; and the house27 of David [shall be] as God, as the28 angel of the Lord before them.

[9] And it shall come to pass in that day, [that] I will29 seek to destroy all the nations that come against Jerusalem.

Mourning the One They Pierced[ John 19:31–37 ]

[10] And I will pour30 upon the house31 of David, and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the spirit32 of grace and of supplications33: and they shall look34 upon me whom they have pierced, and they shall mourn35 for him, as one mourneth for [his] only [son], and shall be in bitterness for him, as one that is in bitterness for [his] firstborn. [11] In that day shall there be a great mourning in Jerusalem, as36 the mourning of Hadadrimmon in the valley of Megiddon. [12] And the land37 shall mourn, every family apart38; the family of the house of David apart39, and their40 wives apart; the family of the house of Nathan41 apart, and their wives apart; [13] The family of the house of Levi42 apart, and their wives apart; the family of Shimei43 apart, and their wives apart; [14] All the families that remain, every family apart, and44 their wives apart.

  34. That this relates to the crucifixion of Jesus of Nazareth, and to his being pierced by the soldier's spear, we have the authority of the inspired apostle John for affirming; and this application agrees with the opinion of some of the ancient Jews, who interpret it of Messiah the son of David, as Moses Hadarson, on Gen 28:1-22, though Jarchi and Abarbanel refer it to the death of Messiah the son of Joseph, whom they say was to be the suffering Messiah, while the former is to be the triumphant Messiah.
