Jesus Heals a Paralytic[ Mark 2:1–12 Luke 5:17–26 ]

[1] And he2 entered into a ship, and passed over, and came into his3 own city. [2] And, behold, they brought4 to him a man sick of the palsy, lying on a bed: and Jesus seeing5 their faith said unto the sick of the palsy; Son6, be7 of good cheer; thy sins8 be forgiven thee. [3] And, behold, certain9 of the scribes said within themselves, This10 [man] blasphemeth. [4] And Jesus knowing11 their thoughts said, Wherefore12 think ye evil in your hearts? [5] For whether13 is easier, to say, [Thy] sins be forgiven thee; or to say, Arise14, and walk? [6] But that ye may know that the15 Son of man hath power on earth to forgive sins, (then saith he to the sick of the palsy,) Arise16, take up thy bed, and go unto thine house. [7] And he arose, and departed to his house. [8] But when17 the multitudes saw [it], they marvelled, and18 glorified God, which had given such power unto men.

Jesus Calls Matthew[ Mark 2:13–17 Luke 5:27–32 ]

[9] [¶]And as Jesus passed forth from thence, he saw a man, named19 Matthew, sitting at the receipt of custom: and he saith unto him, Follow20 me. And he arose, and followed him.

[10] And it came to pas21s, as Jesus sat at meat in the house, behold, many22 publicans and sinners came and sat down with him and his disciples. [11] And when the Pharisees saw [it], they said23 unto his disciples, Why24 eateth your Master with publicans and sinners? [12] But when Jesus heard [that], he said unto them, They that be whole25 need not a physician, but they that are sick. [13] But go26 ye and learn what [that] meaneth, I will27 have mercy, and not sacrifice: for I am not come to call28 the righteous, but29 sinners to repentance.

Questions about Fasting[ Mark 2:18–20 Luke 5:33–35 ]

[14] Then came to him the disciples30 of John, saying, Why31 do we and the Pharisees fast oft, but thy disciples fast not? [15] And Jesus said unto them, Can32 the children of the bridechamber mourn, as long as the bridegroom is with them? but the days will come, when33 the bridegroom shall be taken from them, and then34 shall they fast.

The Patches and the Wineskins[ Mark 2:21–22 Luke 5:36–39 ]

[16] No man putteth a piece of new cloth35 unto an old garment, for36 that which is put in to fill it up taketh from the garment, and the rent is made worse. [17] Neither do men put new wine into old37 bottles: else the bottles break, and the wine runneth out, and the bottles perish: but they put new wine into new bottles, and both are preserved.

The Healing Touch of Jesus[ Mark 5:21–43 Luke 8:40–56 ]

[18] While he spake these things unto them, behold38, there came a certain ruler39, and worshipped40 him, saying, My daughter41 is even now dead: but come42 and lay thy hand upon her, and she shall live. [19] And Jesus arose, and followed him, and [so did] his disciples.43

[20] And, behold44, a woman, which was diseased with an issue45 of blood twelve years, came behind [him], and touched46 the hem47 of his garment: [21] For she said within herself, If48 I may but touch his garment, I shall be whole. [22] But Jesus turned him about, and when he saw her, he said, Daughter49, be of good comfort; thy50 faith hath made thee whole. And the woman was made whole from51 that hour. [23] And when Jesus came into52 the ruler’s house, and saw the minstrels53 and the people making a noise, [24] He said unto them, Give54 place: for the maid is not55 dead, but sleepeth. And56 they laughed him to scorn. [25] But when the people57 were put forth, he went in, and took58 her by the hand, and the maid arose. [26] And the fame hereof59 went abroad into all that land.

Jesus Heals the Blind and Mute[ Mark 7:31–37 ]

[27] And when Jesus departed thence, two60 blind men followed him, crying, and saying, [Thou61] Son of David, have62 mercy on us. [28] And when he was come63 into the house, the blind men came to him: and Jesus saith unto them, Believe64 ye that I am able to do this? They said unto him, Yea, Lord. [29] Then touched65 he their eyes, saying, According66 to your faith be it unto you. [30] And their67 eyes were opened; and Jesus straitly68 charged them, saying, See [that] no man know [it]. [31] But they, when they were departed, spread69 abroad his fame in all that country.

[32] As they went out, behold, they brought to him a dumb70 man possessed with a devil. [33] And when the devil was cast out, the dumb71 spake: and the multit72udes marvelled, saying, It was never so seen in Israel. [34] But the Pharisees said, He casteth out devils through the prince of the devils.73

The Lord of the Harvest[ Luke 10:1–12 ]

[35] And Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every sickness and every disease among the people.74

[36] But when75 he saw the multitudes, he was moved with compassion on them, because they fainted76, and were scattered abroad, as77 sheep having no shepherd. [37] Then saith he unto his disciples, The harvest78 truly [is] plenteous, but79 the labourers [are] few; [38] Pray80 ye therefore the Lord81 of the harvest, that82 he will send forth labourers into his harvest.

  8. Rather, "thy sins are forgiven thee;" the words being an affirmation, not a prayer or wish. The word be, however, was used by our translators in the indicative plural for are. As the palsy is frequently produced by intemperance, it is probable, from our Lord's gracious declaration, that it was the case in the present instance.
