God’s Enemies Are Scattered 2

To the chief Musician, A Psalm [or] Song of David.

[1] Let God arise3, let his enemies be scattered4: let them also that hate5 him flee before him6. [2] As smoke7 is driven away, [so] drive [them] away: as wax8 melteth before the fire, [so] let the wicked perish at the presence of God. [3] But9 let the righteous be glad; let them rejoice10 before God: yea, let them exceedingly rejoice11. [4] Sing unto God12, sing praises to his name: extol him that rideth13 upon the heavens by his name14 Jah15, and rejoice before him. [5] A father16 of the fatherless, and a judge17 of the widows, [is] God in his18 holy habitation. [6] God19 setteth the solitary in families20: he bringeth21 out those which are bound with chains: but the rebellious22 dwell in a dry [land]. [7] O God23, when thou wentest forth before thy people, when thou didst24 march through the wilderness; Selah: [8] The earth25 shook, the heavens26 also dropped at the presence of God: [even] Sinai27 itself [was moved] at the presence of God, the God28 of Israel. [9] Thou, O God, didst29 send30 a plentiful rain, whereby thou didst confirm thine inheritance31, when it was weary. [10] Thy congregation32 hath dwelt therein: thou33, O God, hast prepared of thy goodness for the poor. [11] The Lord34 gave the word: great [was] the company35 of those that published [it]. [12] Kings36 of armies did flee37 apace38: and she that tarried at home divided the spoil. [13] Though39 ye have40 lien among the pots, [yet shall ye be as] the wings41 of a dove covered with silver, and her feathers with yellow gold. [14] When42 the Almighty scattered kings in it, it was43 [white] as snow44 in Salmon. [15] The hill of God45 [is as] the hill of Bashan46; an high hill [as] the hill of Bashan. [16] Why47 leap ye, ye high hills? [this is] the hill48 [which] God desireth to dwell in; yea, the Lord will dwell [in it] for ever. [17] The chariots49 of God [are] twenty thousand50, [even] thousands of angels: the Lord [is] among them, [as in] Sinai51, in the holy [place]. [18] Thou hast ascended52 on high, thou hast led53 captivity captive: thou hast received54 gifts for men55; yea, [for] the rebellious56 also, that57 the Lord God might dwell [among them]. [19] Blessed58 [be] the Lord, [who] daily59 loadeth us [with benefits], [even] the God of our salvation. Selah. [20] [He that is] our God60 [is] the God of salvation; and unto61 God the Lord [belong] the issues62 from death. [21] But God63 shall wound the head of his enemies, [and] the hairy64 scalp of such65 an one as goeth on still in his trespasses. [22] The Lord said, I will bring again from Bashan66, I will bring [my people] again from the depths67 of the sea: [23] That68 thy foot may be dipped69 in the blood of [thine] enemies, [and] the tongue70 of thy dogs in the same. [24] They have seen thy goings, O God; [even71] the goings of my God, my King, in the sanctuary. [25] The singers went before, the players72 on instruments [followed] after; among73 [them were] the damsels playing with timbrels. [26] Bless74 ye God in the congregations, [even] the Lord, from the fountain75 of Israel. [27] There [is] little76 Benjamin [with] their ruler, the princes77 of Judah [and] their council78, the princes of Zebulun, [and] the princes of Naphtali. [28] Thy God hath commanded79 thy strength: strengthen80, O God, that which thou hast wrought for us. [29] Because81 of thy temple at Jerusalem shall82 kings bring presents unto thee. [30] Rebuke83 the company of spearmen84, the multitude85 of the bulls, with the calves of the people, [till every86 one] submit himself with pieces of silver: scatter thou87 the people [that] delight88 in war. [31] Princes89 shall come out of Egypt; Ethiopia90 shall soon stretch91 out her hands unto God. [32] Sing unto God, ye kingdoms92 of the earth; O sing praises unto the Lord; Selah: [33] To him that rideth93 upon the heavens of heavens, [which were] of old94; lo, he doth send out95 his voice96, [and that] a mighty voice. [34] Ascribe97 ye strength unto God: his excellency98 [is] over Israel, and his strength99 [is] in the clouds100. [35] O God, [thou art] terrible101 out of thy holy places: the God of Israel [is] he that giveth102 strength and power unto [his] people. Blessed103 [be] God.

This refers to the phenomena of thunder and lightning; for all nations have observed the electric fluid is an irresistible agent - destroying life, tearing towers and castles to pieces, rending the strongest oaks, and cleaving the most solid rocks; and the most enlightened nations have justly considered it as an especial manifestation of the power and sovereignty of God.
