⥃Elihu Describes God’s Power
[1] Elihu also proceeded, and said, [2] Suffer2 me a little, and I will shew thee that [I have] yet to speak3 on God’s behalf. [3] I will fetch4 my knowledge from afar, and will ascribe5 righteousness to my Maker. [4] For truly my6 words [shall] not [be] false: he that is perfect7 in8 knowledge [is] with thee. [5] Behold, God [is] mighty, and despiseth9 not [any]: [he is] mighty10 in strength [and] wisdom11. [6] He preserveth12 not the life of the wicked: but giveth13 right to the poor14. [7] He with15draweth not his eyes from the righteous: but with kings [are they] on the throne; yea, he doth16 establish them for ever, and they are exalted.17 [8] And if18 [they be] bound in fetters, [and] be holden in cords19 of affliction; [9] The20n he sheweth them their21 work, and their transgressions that they have exceeded. [10] He openeth22 also their ear to discipline, and commandeth23 that they return from iniquity. [11] If24 they obey and serve [him], they shall spend25 their days in prosperity, and their years in pleasures. [12] But if26 they obey not, they shall perish27 by the sword, and they shall die28 without knowledge. [13] But the hypocrites in heart heap29 up wrath: they30 cry not when he bindeth31 them. [14] They die32 in youth, and their life [is] among the unclean33. [15] He delivereth34 the poor35 in his affliction, and openeth36 their ears in oppression. [16] Even so would he have removed thee out of the strait [into] a broad37 place, where [there is] no straitness; and that which should be set on thy table38 [should be] full39 of fatness. [17] But thou hast fulfilled40 the judgment of the wicked: judgment and justice take hold [on thee41]. [18] Because42 [there is] wrath, [beware] lest he take thee away with [his43] stroke: then44 a great ransom cannot deliver thee45. [19] Will46 he esteem thy riches? [no], not gold, nor all47 the forces of strength. [20] Desire48 not the night, when people are cut49 off in their place. [21] Take heed, regard50 not iniquity: for this51 hast thou chosen rather than affliction. [22] Behold, God52 exalteth by his power: who53 teacheth like him? [23] Who hath54 enjoined him his way? or who can say, Thou55 hast wrought iniquity? [24] Remember that thou magnify56 his work, which57 men behold. [25] Every man may see it; man may behold [it] afar off. [26] Behold, God58 [is] great, and we59 know [him] not, neither60 can the number of his years be searched out. [27] For he61 maketh small the drops of water: they pour down rain according to the vapour62 thereof: [28] Which the clouds do drop [and] distil upon man abundantly.63 [29] Also can [any] understand the spreadings64 of the clouds, [or] the noise65 of his tabernacle? [30] Behold, he66 spreadeth his light upon it, and67 covereth the bottom68 of the sea. [31] For by69 them judgeth he the people; he giveth70 meat in abundance. [32] With clouds he covereth the light; and commandeth it [not to shine] by [the cloud] that cometh betwixt.7172 [33] The noise73 thereof sheweth concerning it, the cattle74 also concerning the vapour75.
