(KJV) Job 36¹

⥃Elihu Describes God’s Power

[1] Elihu also proceeded, and said, [2] Suffer² me a little, and I will shew thee that [I have] yet to speak³ on God’s behalf. [3] I will fetch⁴ my knowledge from afar, and will ascribe⁵ righteousness to my Maker. [4] For truly my⁶ words [shall] not [be] false: he that is perfect⁷ in⁸ knowledge [is] with thee. [5] Behold, God [is] mighty, and despiseth⁹ not [any]: [he is] mighty¹⁰ in strength [and] wisdom¹¹. [6] He preserveth¹² not the life of the wicked: but giveth¹³ right to the poor¹⁴. [7] He with¹⁵draweth not his eyes from the righteous: but with kings [are they] on the throne; yea, he doth¹⁶ establish them for ever, and they are exalted.¹⁷ [8] And if¹⁸ [they be] bound in fetters, [and] be holden in cords¹⁹ of affliction; [9] The²⁰n he sheweth them their²¹ work, and their transgressions that they have exceeded. [10] He openeth²² also their ear to discipline, and commandeth²³ that they return from iniquity. [11] If²⁴ they obey and serve [him], they shall spend²⁵ their days in prosperity, and their years in pleasures. [12] But if²⁶ they obey not, they shall perish²⁷ by the sword, and they shall die²⁸ without knowledge. [13] But the hypocrites in heart heap²⁹ up wrath: they³⁰ cry not when he bindeth³¹ them. [14] They die³² in youth, and their life [is] among the unclean³³. [15] He delivereth³⁴ the poor³⁵ in his affliction, and openeth³⁶ their ears in oppression. [16] Even so would he have removed thee out of the strait [into] a broad³⁷ place, where [there is] no straitness; and that which should be set on thy table³⁸ [should be] full³⁹ of fatness. [17] But thou hast fulfilled⁴⁰ the judgment of the wicked: judgment and justice take hold [on thee⁴¹]. [18] Because⁴² [there is] wrath, [beware] lest he take thee away with [his⁴³] stroke: then⁴⁴ a great ransom cannot deliver thee⁴⁵. [19] Will⁴⁶ he esteem thy riches? [no], not gold, nor all⁴⁷ the forces of strength. [20] Desire⁴⁸ not the night, when people are cut⁴⁹ off in their place. [21] Take heed, regard⁵⁰ not iniquity: for this⁵¹ hast thou chosen rather than affliction. [22] Behold, God⁵² exalteth by his power: who⁵³ teacheth like him? [23] Who hath⁵⁴ enjoined him his way? or who can say, Thou⁵⁵ hast wrought iniquity? [24] Remember that thou magnify⁵⁶ his work, which⁵⁷ men behold. [25] Every man may see it; man may behold [it] afar off. [26] Behold, God⁵⁸ [is] great, and we⁵⁹ know [him] not, neither⁶⁰ can the number of his years be searched out. [27] For he⁶¹ maketh small the drops of water: they pour down rain according to the vapour⁶² thereof: [28] Which the clouds do drop [and] distil upon man abundantly.⁶³ [29] Also can [any] understand the spreadings⁶⁴ of the clouds, [or] the noise⁶⁵ of his tabernacle? [30] Behold, he⁶⁶ spreadeth his light upon it, and⁶⁷ covereth the bottom⁶⁸ of the sea. [31] For by⁶⁹ them judgeth he the people; he giveth⁷⁰ meat in abundance. [32] With clouds he covereth the light; and commandeth it [not to shine] by [the cloud] that cometh betwixt.⁷¹⁷² [33] The noise⁷³ thereof sheweth concerning it, the cattle⁷⁴ also concerning the vapour⁷⁵.
