⥃Living to Please God

[1] Furthermore then we2 beseech3 you, brethren, and exhort4 [you] by the5 Lord Jesus, that as ye have6 received of us how ye ought7 to walk and to please8 God, [so] ye9 would abound more and more. [2] For ye know what commandments we gave you by the Lord Jesus.10 [3] For this11 is the will of God, [even] your12 sanctification, that13 ye should abstain from fornication: [4] That every one of you should14 know how to possess his15 vessel in sanctification and honour16; [5] Not in the17 lust of concupiscence, even as the18 Gentiles which know19 not God: [6] That no [man] go20 beyond and defraud21 his brother in [any] matter22: because that the Lord23 [is] the avenger of all such, as we24 also have forewarned you and testified. [7] For God25 hath not called us unto uncleanness26, but unto holiness. [8] He therefore that despiseth27, despiseth not28 man, but God, who29 hath also given unto us his holy Spirit. [9] But as touching30 brotherly love ye need31 not that I write unto you: for ye32 yourselves are taught of God to love one another. [10] And indeed ye do it toward all the33 brethren which are in all Macedonia: but we beseech you, brethren, that ye34 increase more and more; [11] And that35 ye study36 to be quiet, and to do37 your own business, and to work38 with your own hands, as we commanded you; [12] That ye may walk39 honestly toward them40 that are without, and [that] ye may have lack of nothing41.

⥃The Return of the Lord

[13] But I would42 not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are43 asleep, that ye sorrow44 not, even as others which have45 no hope. [14] For if we46 believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep47 in Jesus will God48 bring with him. [15] For this we say unto you by the49 word of the Lord, that we which are50 alive [and] remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent51 them which are asleep52. [16] For the Lord53 himself shall descend from heaven with a54 shout, with the voice of the archangel55, and with the trump56 of God: and the57 dead in Christ shall rise first: [17] Then we which58 are alive [and] remain shall be caught59 up together with them in the60 clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so61 shall we ever be with the Lord. [18] Wherefore62 comfort63 one another with these words.
