⥃Faith and Belief ^{[ James 2:14–26 ]}

[1] O foolish² Galatians, who³ hath bewitched you, that ye⁴ should not obey the truth, before whose eyes Jesus Christ⁵ hath been evidently set forth, crucified among you? [2] This only would I learn of you, Received⁶ ye the Spirit by the works of the law, or by the hearing⁷ of faith? [3] Are ye so foolish? having⁸ begun in the Spirit, are ye now made perfect by the flesh? [4] Have ye⁹ suffered so many¹⁰ things in vain? if [it be] yet in vain. [5] He therefore that¹¹ ministereth to you the Spirit, and worketh¹² miracles among you, [doeth he it] by the works¹³ of the law, or by the hearing of faith? [6] Even as¹⁴ Abraham believed God, and it was accounted¹⁵ to him for righteousness. [7] Know¹⁶ ye therefore that they¹⁷ which are of faith, the same are the children of Abraham. [8] And the scripture¹⁸, foreseeing¹⁹ that God²⁰ would justify the heathen through faith, preached²¹ before the gospel unto Abraham, [sayin²²g], In thee shall all nations be blessed. [9] So then they which be of faith are blessed with faithful Abraham.²³

⥃Christ Has Redeemed Us

[10] For as many²⁴ as are of the works of the law are under²⁵ the curse: for it is written, Cursed²⁶ [is] every one that continueth not in all things which are written in the book of the law to do them. [11] But that²⁷ no man is justified by the law in the sight of God, [it is] evident: for, The just²⁸ shall live by faith. [12] And the law²⁹ is not of faith: but, The man³⁰ that doeth them shall live in them. [13] Christ hath redeemed³¹ us from the curse of the law, being³² made a curse for³³ us: for it is written, Cursed³⁴ [is] every one that hangeth on a tree: [14] That the blessing³⁵ of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through³⁶ Jesus Christ; that we might³⁷ receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.

⥃The Purpose of the Law ^{[ Romans 7:1–6 ]}

[15] Brethren, I speak³⁸ after the manner of men; Though [it be³⁹] but a man’s covenant⁴⁰, yet [if it be] confirmed, no man disannulleth, or addeth thereto. [16] Now to⁴¹ Abraham and his seed were the promises made. He saith not, And to seeds, as of many; but as of one, And to thy seed, which⁴² is Christ. [17] And this⁴³ I say, [that] the covenant⁴⁴, that was confirmed before of God in Christ, the law, which⁴⁵ was four hundred and thirty years after, cannot⁴⁶ disannul, that it⁴⁷ should make the promise of none⁴⁸ effect. [18] For if⁴⁹ the inheritance [be] of the law, [it is] no more of promise: but⁵⁰ God gave [it] to Abraham by promise. [19] Wherefore then⁵¹ [serveth] the law? It was added⁵² because of transgressions, till⁵³ the seed should come to whom the promise was made; [and it was] ordained by⁵⁴ angels in⁵⁵ the hand of a mediator. [20] Now a mediator is⁵⁶ not [a mediator] of one, but⁵⁷ God is one. [21] [Is] the law⁵⁸ then against the promises of God? God for⁵⁹bid⁶⁰: for if there had been a law given which could have given life, verily righteousness⁶¹ should have been by the law. [22] But the scripture hath concluded⁶² all under sin, that⁶³ the promise by faith of Jesus Christ might be given to⁶⁴ them that believe. [23] But before faith came⁶⁵, we were kept under⁶⁶ the law, shut up unto the faith⁶⁷ which should afterwards be revealed. [24] Wherefore the law⁶⁸ was our schoolmaster [to bring us] unto Christ, that we might be justified⁶⁹ by faith. [25] But after that faith⁷⁰ is come, we⁷¹ are no longer under a schoolmaster.

⥃Sons through Faith in Christ

[26] For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus.⁷² [27] For as many⁷³ of you as have been baptized into Christ have put⁷⁴ on Christ. [28] There is neither⁷⁵ Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male⁷⁶ nor female: for⁷⁷ ye are all one in Christ Jesus. [29] And if ye [be] Christ’s⁷⁸, then are ye Abraham’s⁷⁹ seed, and heirs⁸⁰ according to the promise.
