⥃A Prayer for God’s Power
[1] Oh that2 thou wouldest rend the heavens, that thou wouldest come3 down, that the4 mountains might flow down at thy presence, [2] As [when] the melting fire5 burneth, the fire causeth the waters to boil, to make6 thy name known to thine adversaries, [that] the nations7 may tremble at thy presence! [3] When thou didst8 terrible things [which] we looked not for, thou camest down, the mountains9 flowed down at thy presence. [4] For since the beginning of the world [men] have not10 heard, nor perceived by the ear, neither hath the eye seen11, O God, beside thee, [what] he hath prepared for him that waiteth12 for him. [5] Thou meetest13 him that rejoiceth14 and worketh righteousness, [those that15] remember thee in thy ways: behold, thou art wroth16; for we have sinned: in those17 is continuance, and we shall be saved. [6] But we are all18 as an unclean [thing], and all our19 righteousnesses [are] as filthy rags; and we all20 do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities21, like the wind, have taken us away. [7] And [there is22] none that calleth upon thy name, that stirreth up himself to take23 hold of thee: for thou hast hid24 thy face from us, and hast consumed25 us, because26 of our iniquities. [8] But now, O Lord, thou [art27] our father; we [are] the clay28, and thou our potter; and we all [are29] the work of thy hand.
[9] [¶]Be not wroth30 very sore, O Lord, neither remember31 iniquity for ever: behold, see, we beseech thee, we [are32] all thy people. [10] Thy holy cities are a wilderness, Zion is a wilderness, Jerusalem a desolation.33 [11] Our holy34 and our beautiful house, where35 our fathers praised thee, is burned up with fire: and all our36 pleasant things are laid waste. [12] Wilt thou refrain thyself for these [things], O Lord? wilt thou hold thy peace, and afflict us very sore? 37
