(KJV) Isaiah 64¹

⥃A Prayer for God’s Power

[1] Oh that² thou wouldest rend the heavens, that thou wouldest come³ down, that the⁴ mountains might flow down at thy presence, [2] As [when] the melting fire⁵ burneth, the fire causeth the waters to boil, to make⁶ thy name known to thine adversaries, [that] the nations⁷ may tremble at thy presence! [3] When thou didst⁸ terrible things [which] we looked not for, thou camest down, the mountains⁹ flowed down at thy presence. [4] For since the beginning of the world [men] have not¹⁰ heard, nor perceived by the ear, neither hath the eye seen¹¹, O God, beside thee, [what] he hath prepared for him that waiteth¹² for him. [5] Thou meetest¹³ him that rejoiceth¹⁴ and worketh righteousness, [those that¹⁵] remember thee in thy ways: behold, thou art wroth¹⁶; for we have sinned: in those¹⁷ is continuance, and we shall be saved. [6] But we are all¹⁸ as an unclean [thing], and all our¹⁹ righteousnesses [are] as filthy rags; and we all²⁰ do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities²¹, like the wind, have taken us away. [7] And [there is²²] none that calleth upon thy name, that stirreth up himself to take²³ hold of thee: for thou hast hid²⁴ thy face from us, and hast consumed²⁵ us, because²⁶ of our iniquities. [8] But now, O Lord, thou [art²⁷] our father; we [are] the clay²⁸, and thou our potter; and we all [are²⁹] the work of thy hand.

[9] [¶]Be not wroth³⁰ very sore, O Lord, neither remember³¹ iniquity for ever: behold, see, we beseech thee, we [are³²] all thy people. [10] Thy holy cities are a wilderness, Zion is a wilderness, Jerusalem a desolation.³³ [11] Our holy³⁴ and our beautiful house, where³⁵ our fathers praised thee, is burned up with fire: and all our³⁶ pleasant things are laid waste. [12] Wilt thou refrain thyself for these [things], O Lord? wilt thou hold thy peace, and afflict us very sore? ³⁷
