⥃The Burden against Nineveh ^{[ Jonah 1:1–3 ]}

[1] The burden² of Nineveh³. The book of the vision of Nahum the Elkoshite. [2] God [is] jealous, and the Lord revengeth⁴⁵; the Lord revengeth, and [is] furious⁶; the Lord will take vengeance on his adversaries, and he reserveth⁷ [wrath] for his enemies. [3] The Lord [is] slow⁸ to anger, and great⁹ in power, and will¹⁰ not at all acquit [the wicked]: the Lord [hath] his way¹¹ in the whirlwind and in the storm, and the clouds [are] the dust of his feet. [4] He rebuketh¹² the sea, and maketh it dry, and drieth¹³ up all the rivers: Bashan¹⁴ languisheth, and Carmel, and the flower of Lebanon languisheth. [5] The mountains¹⁵ quake at him, and the hills¹⁶ melt, and the earth¹⁷ is burned at his presence, yea, the world, and all that dwell therein. [6] Who can stand¹⁸ before his indignation? and who can abide¹⁹ in the fierceness of his anger? his fury²⁰ is poured out like fire, and the rocks are thrown down by him. [7] The Lord²¹ [is] good, a strong hold²² in the²³ day of trouble; and he²⁴ knoweth them that²⁵ trust in him. [8] But with²⁶ an overrunning flood he will make an utter end of the place²⁷ thereof, and darkness²⁸ shall pursue his enemies. [9] What do²⁹ ye imagine against the³⁰ Lord? he will make an utter end: affliction shall not rise up the second time. [10] For while [they be³¹] folden together [as] thorns, and while they are drunken³² [as] drunkards, they shall³³ be devoured as stubble fully dry. [11] There is [one³⁴] come out of thee, that imagineth evil against the Lord, a wicked counsellor³⁵. [12] Thus saith the Lord; Though [they be] quiet, and likewise many, yet thus shall they be cut down³⁶, when he shall pass³⁷ through³⁸. Though I have afflicted thee, I will³⁹ afflict thee no more. [13] For now will I⁴⁰ break his yoke from off thee, and will burst⁴¹ thy bonds in sunder. [14] And the Lord hath given⁴² a commandment concerning thee, [that⁴³] no more of thy name be sown: out⁴⁴ of the house of thy gods will I cut off the graven image and the molten image: I will make⁴⁵ thy grave; for⁴⁶ thou art vile. [15] Behold upon⁴⁷ the mountains the feet of him that bringeth good tidings, that publisheth peace! O Judah, keep⁴⁸ thy solemn feasts, perform⁴⁹ thy vows: for the wicked⁵⁰ shall no⁵¹ more pass through the⁵²e; he is utterly cut off.
