⥃The Burden against Nineveh [ Jonah 1:1–3 ]
[1] The burden2 of Nineveh3. The book of the vision of Nahum the Elkoshite. [2] God [is] jealous, and the Lord revengeth45; the Lord revengeth, and [is] furious6; the Lord will take vengeance on his adversaries, and he reserveth7 [wrath] for his enemies. [3] The Lord [is] slow8 to anger, and great9 in power, and will10 not at all acquit [the wicked]: the Lord [hath] his way11 in the whirlwind and in the storm, and the clouds [are] the dust of his feet. [4] He rebuketh12 the sea, and maketh it dry, and drieth13 up all the rivers: Bashan14 languisheth, and Carmel, and the flower of Lebanon languisheth. [5] The mountains15 quake at him, and the hills16 melt, and the earth17 is burned at his presence, yea, the world, and all that dwell therein. [6] Who can stand18 before his indignation? and who can abide19 in the fierceness of his anger? his fury20 is poured out like fire, and the rocks are thrown down by him. [7] The Lord21 [is] good, a strong hold22 in the23 day of trouble; and he24 knoweth them that25 trust in him. [8] But with26 an overrunning flood he will make an utter end of the place27 thereof, and darkness28 shall pursue his enemies. [9] What do29 ye imagine against the30 Lord? he will make an utter end: affliction shall not rise up the second time. [10] For while [they be31] folden together [as] thorns, and while they are drunken32 [as] drunkards, they shall33 be devoured as stubble fully dry. [11] There is [one34] come out of thee, that imagineth evil against the Lord, a wicked counsellor35. [12] Thus saith the Lord; Though [they be] quiet, and likewise many, yet thus shall they be cut down36, when he shall pass37 through38. Though I have afflicted thee, I will39 afflict thee no more. [13] For now will I40 break his yoke from off thee, and will burst41 thy bonds in sunder. [14] And the Lord hath given42 a commandment concerning thee, [that43] no more of thy name be sown: out44 of the house of thy gods will I cut off the graven image and the molten image: I will make45 thy grave; for46 thou art vile. [15] Behold upon47 the mountains the feet of him that bringeth good tidings, that publisheth peace! O Judah, keep48 thy solemn feasts, perform49 thy vows: for the wicked50 shall no51 more pass through the52e; he is utterly cut off.
