⥃Teaching Sound Doctrine

[1] But speak thou the things which become sound doctrine:² [2] That the³ aged men be sober⁴, grave⁵, temperate⁶, sound⁷ in faith, in charity, in patience⁸. [3] The aged women likewise, that [they be] in behaviour as⁹ becometh holiness¹⁰, not false accusers¹¹, not given¹² to much wine, teachers¹³ of good things; [4] That the¹⁴y may teach the young women to be sober¹⁵, to love their husbands¹⁶, to love their children, [5] [To be] discreet¹⁷, chaste, keepers¹⁸ at home, good¹⁹, obedient²⁰ to their own husbands, that²¹ the word of God be not blasphemed. [6] Young²² men likewise exhort to be sober minded²³. [7] In all²⁴ things shewing thyself a pattern of good works: in doctrine [shewing] uncorruptness²⁵, gravity²⁶, sincerity²⁷, [8] Sound²⁸ speech, that cannot be condemned; that he²⁹ that is of the contrary part may³⁰ be ashamed, having³¹ no evil thing to say of you. [9] [Exhort] servants³² to be obedient unto their own masters, [and] to please³³ [them] well in all [things]; not answering again³⁴; [10] Not purloining³⁵, but shewing³⁶ all good fidelity; that they may adorn³⁷ the doctrine³⁸ of God³⁹ our Saviour in all things.

⥃God’s Grace Brings Salvation

[11] For the grace⁴⁰ of God that bringeth⁴¹ salvation hath appeared⁴² to all men, [12] Teaching⁴³ us that, denying⁴⁴ ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live⁴⁵ soberly⁴⁶, righteously, and godly⁴⁷, in this⁴⁸ present world; [13] Looking⁴⁹ for that blessed⁵⁰ hope, and the glorious⁵¹ appearing of the great God and our⁵² Saviour Jesus Christ; [14] Who gave⁵³ himself for us, that⁵⁴ he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify⁵⁵ unto⁵⁶ himself a peculiar⁵⁷ people, zealous⁵⁸ of good works. [15] These things speak⁵⁹, and exhort, and rebuke with⁶⁰ all authority. Let⁶¹ no man despise thee.
