⥃Paul’s Joy in the Corinthians

[1] Having therefore² these promises, dearly beloved, let³ us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness⁴ of the flesh and spirit, perfectin⁵g⁶ holiness in the fear of God. [2] Receive⁷ us; we have wronged⁸ no man, we have corrupted no man, we have defrauded no man. [3] I speak not [this] to condemn⁹ [you]: for¹⁰ I have said before, that ye¹¹ are in our hearts to die¹² and live with [you]. [4] Great [is] my boldness¹³ of speech toward you, great¹⁴ [is] my glorying of you: I am filled¹⁵ with comfort, I am exceeding joyful in all our tribulation. [5] For, when¹⁶ we were come into Macedonia, our¹⁷ flesh had no rest, but we were troubled¹⁸ on every side; without¹⁹ [were] fightings, within [were] fears²⁰. [6] Nevertheless God, that comforteth²¹ those that are cast down, comforted²² us by the coming of Titus; [7] And not by his coming only, but²³ by the consolation wherewith he was comforted in you, when²⁴ he told us your earnest²⁵ desire, your mourning²⁶, your fervent²⁷ mind toward me; so that I rejoiced the more. [8] For though I made²⁸ you sorry with a letter, I do not repent, though I did²⁹ repent: for I perceive that the same epistle hath made you sorry, though [it were] but for a season. [9] Now I rejoice³⁰, not that ye were made sorry, but that ye sorrowed to repentance: for ye were made sorry after a godly manner³¹, that ye³² might receive damage by us in nothing. [10] For godly sorrow worketh repentance³³ to salvation not to be repented of: but the sorrow³⁴ of the world worketh death. [11] For behold this selfsame thing, that³⁵ ye sorrowed after a godly sort, what carefulness³⁶ it wrought in you, yea, [what] clearing³⁷ of yourselves, yea, [what] indignation³⁸, yea, [what] fear³⁹, yea, [what] vehement⁴⁰ desire, yea, [what] zeal⁴¹, yea, [what] revenge⁴²! In all [things] ye have approved⁴³ yourselves to be clear in this matter. [12] Wherefore, though I wrote unto you, [I did⁴⁴ it] not for his cause that had done the wrong, nor for his cause that suffered wrong, but that our⁴⁵ care for you in the sight of God might appear unto you. [13] Therefore we were⁴⁶ comforted in your comfort: yea, and exceedingly the more joyed we for the joy of Titus, because⁴⁷ his spirit was refreshed by you all. [14] For if⁴⁸ I have boasted any thing to him of you, I am not ashamed; but as we⁴⁹ spake all things to you in truth, even so our boasting, which [I made] before Titus, is found a truth. [15] And his inward affection is⁵⁰ more abundant toward you, whilst he remembereth the obedience⁵¹ of you all, how with⁵² fear and trembling ye received him. [16] I rejoice therefore that⁵³ I have confidence in you in all [things].
