⥃A Call to Repentance [ Joel 1:13–20 † Amos 5:4–15 † Luke 13:1–5 ]

[1] Gather yourselves together, yea, gather together2, O nation3 not desired4; [2] Before the decree5 bring forth, [before] the day pas6s as the chaff, before the fierce7 anger of the Lord come upon you, before the day of8 the Lord’s anger come upon you. [3] Seek ye9 the Lord, all10 ye meek of the earth, which have wrought his judgment; seek righteousness11, seek meekness: it may12 be ye shall be hid13 in the day of the Lord’s anger.

⥃Judgment on the Philistines [ Jeremiah 47:1–7 ]

[4] For Gaza14 shall be forsaken, and Ashkelon a desolat15ion: they shall drive out Ashdod at the noon day, and Ekron shall be rooted up. [5] Woe unto the inhabitants of the sea coast, the nation of the Cherethites16! the word17 of the Lord [is] against you; O Canaan18, the land of the Philistines, I will even destroy thee, that there shall be no inhabitant. [6] And the sea19 coast shall be dwellings [and] cottages for shepherds, and folds for flocks. [7] And the coast20 shall be for the remnant21 of the house of Judah; they shall feed thereupon: in the houses of Ashkelon shall they lie down in the evening: for22 the Lord their God shall visit23 them, and turn24 away their captivity.

⥃Judgment on Moab and Ammon [ Isaiah 16:1–14 † Jeremiah 48:1–47 ]

[8] I have heard25 the reproach of Moab, and the revilings26 of the children of Ammon, whereby they have reproached my people, and magnified [themselves] against their border. [9] Therefore [as] I27 live, saith the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel, Surely28 Moab shall be as Sodom, and the children of Ammon as Gomorrah29, [even] the breeding of nettles, and saltpits, and a perpetual desolation: the residue30 of my people shall spoil them, and the remnant of my people shall possess them. [10] This shall they have for31 their pride, because they have reproached and magnified32 [themselves] against the people of the Lord of hosts. [11] The Lord [will be] terrible unto them: for33 he will famish34 all the gods of the earth; and [men35] shall worship him, every one from his place, [even] all the isles36 of the heathen.

⥃Judgment on Cush and Assyria

[12] Ye Ethiopians37 also, ye [shall be] slain by my38 sword. [13] And he will39 stretch out his hand against the north, and destroy Assyria; and will make40 Nineveh a desolation, [and] dry like a wilderness. [14] And flocks41 shall lie down in the midst of her, all the beasts of the nations: both the cormorant42 and the bittern shall lodge in the upper lintels43 of it; [their] voice shall sing in the windows; desolation [shall be] in the thresholds: for he shall uncover44 the cedar45 work. [15] This [is] the rejoicing46 city that dwelt carelessly, that said in her heart, I [am47], and [there is] none beside me: how is48 she become a desolation, a place for beasts to lie down in! every49 one that passeth by her shall hiss, [and] wag his hand.
