From Everlasting to Everlasting

A Prayer of Moses the man2 of God.

[1] Lord3, thou hast been our dwelling place in all generations4. [2] Before5 the mountains were brought forth, or ever6 thou hadst formed the earth and the world, even from7 everlasting to everlasting, thou8 [art] God. [3] Thou9 turnest man to destruction; and sayest, Return, ye children of men10. [4] For11 a thousand years in thy sight [are but] as yesterday when it is past12, and [as13] a watch in the night. [5] Thou14 carriest them away as with a flood; they are [as] a sleep15: in the morning16 [they are] like grass [which] groweth up17. [6] In the morning it flourisheth, and groweth up; in the evening it is cut down, and withereth.18 [7] For we19 are consumed by thine anger, and by thy wrath are we20 troubled. [8] Thou21 hast set our22 iniquities before thee, our secret [sins] in the23 light of thy countenance. [9] For24 all our days are passed25 away in thy wrath: we spend26 our years as a tale27 [that is told]. [10] The days28 of our years [are] threescore years and ten; and if by reason of strength [they be] fourscore years, yet29 [is] their strength labour and sorrow; for30 it is soon cut off, and we fly away. [11] Who knoweth the power of thine anger? even according to thy fear, [so is] thy wrath.31 [12] So32 teach [us] to number our days, that33 we may apply [our] hearts34 unto wisdom. [13] Return35, O Lord, how36 long? and let it37 repent thee concerning thy servants. [14] O satisfy38 us early with thy mercy; that we39 may rejoice and be glad all our days. [15] Make40 us glad according to the days [wherein] thou hast afflicted us, [and] the years41 [wherein] we have seen evil. [16] Let42 thy work appear unto thy servants, and43 thy glory unto their children. [17] And let44 the beauty of the Lord our God be upon us: and establish45 thou the work of our hands upon us; yea, the work of our hands establish thou it.

All the versions have the word spider, but it is not found in any Hebrew manuscripts, or edition yet collated. The Hebrew might be rendered, "We consume our lives with a groan," kemo hegeh
