[1] I [am] the rose2 of Sharon, [and] the lily3 of the valleys.

[2] As the lily among thorns, so [is] my love among the daughters.4

⥃The Bride

[3] As the apple tree5 among the trees of the wood, so [is] my beloved6 among the sons. I sat7 down under his shadow with great delight, and his fruit8 [was] sweet to my taste9. [4] He brought10 me to the banqueting house11, and his banner12 over me [was] love. [5] Stay13 me with flagons14, comfor15t me16 with apples: for I [am] sick of love. [6] His left hand [is] under my head, and his right hand doth embrace me.17 [7] I charge you18, O ye19 daughters of Jerusalem, by the roes20, and by the hinds of the field, that ye stir21 not up, nor awake [my] love, till he please.

[8] The voice22 of my beloved! behold, he cometh leaping23 upon the mountains24, skipping upon the hills. [9] My beloved is like25 a roe or a young hart: behold, he standeth26 behind our wall, he looketh forth at the windows, shewing27 himself through the lattice. [10] My beloved spake28, and said unto me, Rise29 up, my love, my fair one, and come away. [11] For, lo, the winter is past, the rain is over [and] gone;30 [12] The flowers31 appear on the earth; the time32 of the singing [of birds] is come, and the voice of the turtle33 is heard in our land; [13] The fig tree34 putteth forth her green figs, and the vines [with] the tender grape give a [good] smell. Arise35, my love, my fair one, and come away.

[14] O my dove36, [that art37] in the clefts38 of the rock, in the secret [places] of the stairs, let me see thy countenance, let me hear39 thy voice; for sweet40 [is] thy voice, and thy countenance41 [is] comely.

[15] Take us the foxes42, the little foxes, that spoil the vines: for our vines [have] tender43 grapes.

⥃The Bride

[16] [¶]My beloved44 [is] mine, and I [am] his: he45 feedeth among the lilies. [17] Until the day46 break, and the shadows47 flee away, turn, my beloved48, and be thou like a roe or a young hart upon the mountains of Bether49.
