⥃Victory with God [ 2 Samuel 8:1–14 † 1 Chronicles 18:1–13 † Psalms 108:1–13 ]
To the chief Musician upon Shushan–eduth, Michtam2 of David, to teach; when he strove3 with Aram–naharaim and with Aram–zobah, when Joab returned, and smote of Edom in the valley4 of salt twelve thousand.
[1] O God5, thou hast cast us off, thou hast scattered6 us, thou hast been displeased; O turn7 thyself to us again. [2] Thou hast made8 the earth to tremble; thou hast broken9 it: heal10 the breaches thereof; for it shaketh. [3] Thou hast shewed11 thy people hard things: thou hast made us to drink12 the wine of astonishment. [4] Thou hast given a banner13 to them that fear thee, that it may be displayed because14 of the truth. Selah. [5] That15 thy beloved may be delivered; save16 [with] thy right hand, and hear me. [6] God17 hath spoken in his holiness; I will rejoice18, I will divide19 Shechem20, and mete out the valley21 of Succoth. [7] Gilead22 [is] mine, and Manasseh [is] mine; Ephraim also [is] the strength23 of mine head; Judah24 [is] my lawgiver; [8] Moab25 [is] my washpot; over26 Edom will I cast out my shoe: Philistia, triumph27 thou because of me. [9] Who28 will bring me [into] the strong city29? who will lead me into Edom? [10] [Wilt30] not thou, O God, [which] hadst31 cast us off? and [thou], O God, [which] didst32 not go out with our armies? [11] Give33 us help from trouble: for vain34 [is] the help35 of man. [12] Through God we shall36 do valiantly: for he [it is that] shall tread37 down our enemies.
