⥃You Have Heard My Vows
To the chief Musician upon Neginah, [A Psalm] of David.
[1] Hear2 my cry, O God; attend unto my prayer. [2] From3 the end of the earth will I cry unto thee, when my heart4 is overwhelmed: lead me to the rock5 [that] is higher than I. [3] For thou6 hast been a shelter for me, [and] a strong7 tower from the enemy. [4] I will abide8 in thy tabernacle for ever: I will trust9 in the covert of thy wings. Selah. [5] For thou, O God, hast heard10 my vows: thou hast given [me] the heritage11 of those that fear thy name. [6] Thou wilt prolong the king’s life12: [and] his years as many generations13. [7] He shall abide14 before God for ever: O prepare15 mercy and truth, [which] may preserve him. [8] So will I sing16 praise unto thy name for ever, that I17 may daily perform my vows.

Ps 61:1, David flees to God upon his former experience; Ps 61:4, He vows perpetual service unto him, because of his promises. Instead of neginath , many manuscripts, have neginoth; and two manuscripts, supply mizmor , “a Psalm.” Some suppose this Psalm was composed when David was driven by Absalom’s rebellion beyond Jordan, and from the sanctuary of God.
