⥃Out of Egypt I Called My Son [ Matthew 2:13–15 ]
[1] When Israel2 [was] a child, then I loved him, and called3 my son out of Egypt. [2] [As] they called4 them, so they went from them: they sacrificed5 unto Baalim, and burned6 incense to graven images. [3] I taught7 Ephraim also to go, taking them by their arms; but they knew not that I healed8 them. [4] I drew9 them with cords of a10 man, with bands of love: and I was11 to them as they that take off12 the yoke on their jaws, and I laid13 meat unto them.
[5] [¶]He shall not14 return into the land of Egypt, but15 the Assyrian shall be his king, because16 they refused to return. [6] And the sword17 shall abide on his cities, and shall consume18 his branches, and devour [them], because19 of their own counsels. [7] And my people are bent20 to backsliding from me: though they called them to the most High, none at all would exalt [him21].
⥃God’s Love for Israel
[8] How shall I give22 thee up, Ephraim? [how] shall I deliver thee, Israel? how shall I make thee as Admah23? [how] shall I set thee as Zeboim? mine24 heart25 is turned within me, my repentings are kindled together. [9] I will not execute26 the fierceness of mine anger, I will not return27 to destroy Ephraim: for28 I [am] God, and not man; the Holy One29 in the midst of thee: and I will not enter into the city. [10] They shall walk30 after the Lord: he shall roar like31 a lion: when he shall roar, then the children shall tremble32 from the west33. [11] They shall tremble as a bird out34 of Egypt, and as a dove35 out of the land of Assyria: and I36 will place them in their houses, saith the Lord. [12] Ephraim compasseth37 me about with lies, and the house of Israel with deceit: but Judah38 yet ruleth39 with God, and is faithful with the saints40.
