People from Hiv(?)

The Hivites were one of the Canaanite tribes inhabiting the land promised to the Israelites.

The Hivites were one of the Canaanite people groups that inhabited the land of Canaan prior to the Israelite conquest. They are first mentioned in Genesis 10:17 and 1 Chronicles 1:15 as descendants of Canaan, the son of Ham.

The Hivites lived in various parts of Canaan, including the region around Shechem (Genesis 34:2), the area near Mount Hermon (Joshua 11:3), and the cities of Gibeon, Chephirah, Beeroth, and Kiriath-jearim (Joshua 9:7, 17). They were among the tribes that God promised to drive out before the Israelites (Exodus 3:8, 17; 13:5; 23:23, 28; 33:2; 34:11; Deuteronomy 7:1; 20:17; Joshua 3:10).

During the Israelite conquest of Canaan, the Hivites of Gibeon tricked Joshua into making a peace treaty with them.
