⥃Zion’s Captives Restored
A Song of degrees.
[1] When the Lord turned again2 the captivity of Zion, we were like3 them that dream. [2] Then was4 our mouth filled with laughter, and our tongue with singing: then said5 they among the heathen, The Lord hath done great things for them6. [3] The Lord hath done great things for us; [whereof] we are glad.7 [4] Turn again8 our captivity, O Lord, as the streams9 in the south. [5] They that sow10 in tears shall reap in joy11. [6] He that goeth12 forth and weepeth, bearing precious seed13, shall doubtless14 come again with rejoicing, bringing his sheaves [with him].

This Psalm evidently appears to have been composed in consequence of the proclamation of Cyrus in favour of the Jews, giving them leave to return to their own land, and rebuild their city and temple.
