<< Psalm 136 Psalm 138 >>

By the Rivers of Babylon 2[ Ezekiel 1:1–3 ]

[1] By the rivers3 of Babylon, there we sat down, yea, we wept4, when we remembered Zion. [2] We hanged5 our harps upon the willows in the midst thereof. [3] For there6 they that carried us away captive required of us a song7; and they that wasted us8 [required of us] mirth, [saying], Sing us [one] of the songs of Zion9. [4] How shall10 we sing the Lord’s song in a strange land11? [5] If I forget12 thee, O Jerusalem, let my right13 hand forget [her cunning]. [6] If I do not remember thee, let my tongue14 cleave to the roof of my mouth; if I prefer15 not Jerusalem above my chief joy16. [7] Remember17, O Lord, the children18 of Edom in the day of Jerusalem; who said, Rase [it19], rase [it], [even] to the foundation thereof. [8] O daughter20 of Babylon, who art21 to be destroyed22; happy23 [shall he be], that rewardeth24 thee as thou hast served us. [9] Happy [shall he be], that taketh and dasheth25 thy little ones against the stones26.
