⥃Children Are a Heritage from the LORD

A Song of degrees for Solomon2.

[1] Except the Lord3 build4 the house, they labour5 in vain that build it6: except7 the Lord keep the city, the watchman8 waketh [but] in vain. [2] [It is] vain9 for you to rise up10 early, to sit up late, to eat the bread11 of sorrows: [for] so he12 giveth his beloved sleep. [3] Lo, children13 [are] an heritage of the Lord: [and] the fruit of the womb [is his] reward. [4] As arrows14 [are] in the hand of a mighty man; so [are] children15 of the youth. [5] Happy16 [is] the man that hath his quiver full of them17: they shall not be ashamed, but they shall speak18 with the enemies in the gate.
