(KJV) Psalm 51¹

⥃Create in Me a Clean Heart, O God ^{[ 2 Samuel 12:1–12 ]}

To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David, when Nathan the prophet came unto him, after² he had gone in to Bath–sheba.

[1] Have mercy upon me, O God³, according to thy lovingkindness: according unto the multitude⁴ of thy tender⁵ mercies blot⁶ out my transgressions. [2] Wash⁷ me thoroughly from mine iniquity, and cleanse⁸ me from my sin. [3] For I⁹ acknowledge my transgressions: and my sin¹⁰ [is] ever before me. [4] Against¹¹ thee, thee only, have I sinned, and done [this] evil¹² in thy sight: that thou¹³ mightest be justified when¹⁴ thou speakest, [and] be clear when thou judgest. [5] Behold, I was shapen¹⁵ in iniquity; and in sin did my mother conceive¹⁶ me. [6] Behold¹⁷, thou desirest truth in the inward¹⁸ parts: and in the hidden¹⁹ [part] thou shalt make me to know wisdom. [7] Purge²⁰ me with hyssop, and²¹ I shall be clean: wash me, and I shall be whiter²² than snow. [8] Make²³ me to hear joy and gladness; [that] the bones²⁴ [which] thou hast broken may rejoice. [9] Hide²⁵ thy face from my sins, and blot²⁶ out all mine iniquities. [10] Create²⁷ in me a clean²⁸ heart, O God; and renew²⁹ a right³⁰ spirit within me. [11] Cast³¹ me not away from thy presence; and take³² not thy holy³³ spirit from me. [12] Restore³⁴ unto me the joy³⁵ of thy salvation; and uphold³⁶ me [with thy] free³⁷ spirit. [13] [Then³⁸] will I teach transgressors thy ways³⁹; and sinners shall be converted⁴⁰ unto thee. [14] Deliver⁴¹ me from bloodguiltiness⁴², O God, thou God⁴³ of my salvation: [and] my tongue⁴⁴ shall sing aloud of thy righteousness⁴⁵. [15] O Lord⁴⁶, open⁴⁷ thou my lips; and my mouth⁴⁸ shall shew forth thy praise. [16] For thou desirest⁴⁹ not sacrifice; else would I⁵⁰ give [it]: thou delightest⁵¹ not in burnt offering. [17] The sacrifices⁵² of God [are] a broken spirit⁵³: a broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou⁵⁴ wilt not despise. [18] Do⁵⁵ good in thy⁵⁶ good pleasure unto Zion: build⁵⁷ thou the walls of Jerusalem. [19] Then shalt thou be pleased⁵⁸ with the sacrifices⁵⁹ of righteousness, with burnt offering and whole burnt offering: then shall they offer bullocks upon thine altar.
