⥃Jehoshaphat Reigns in Judah [ 1 Kings 15:23–24 ]
[1] And Jehoshaphat2 his son reigned in his stead, and strengthened3 himself against Israel. [2] And he placed forces4 in all the fenced cities of Judah, and set garrisons in the land of Judah, and in the cities5 of Ephraim, which Asa his father had taken. [3] And the Lord6 was with Jehoshaphat, because he walked7 in the first ways of his father David8, and sought9 not unto Baalim; [4] But sought to the [Lord] God of his father, and walked10 in his commandments, and not after11 the doings of Israel. [5] Therefore the Lord12 stablished the kingdom in his hand; and all Judah brought13 to Jehoshaphat presents14; and he had riches15 and honour in abundance.16 [6] And his heart17 was lifted up18 in the ways19 of the Lord: moreover he took away20 the high places and groves out of Judah.
[7] [¶]Also in the third year of his reign he sent21 to his princes, [even] to Ben–hail, and to Obadiah, and to Zechariah, and to Nethaneel, and to Michaiah, to teach22 in the cities of Judah.2324252627 [8] And with them [he sent] Levites, [even] Shemaiah, and Nethaniah, and Zebadiah, and Asahel, and Shemiramoth, and Jehonathan, and Adonijah, and Tobijah, and Tob–adonijah, Levites; and with them Elishama and Jehoram, priests28. [9] And they taught29 in Judah, and [had] the book30 of the law of the Lord with them, and went about throughout31 all the cities of Judah, and taught the people.
[10] And the fear32 of the Lord fell33 upon all the kingdoms of the lands that [were] round about Judah, so that34 they made no war against Jehoshaphat. [11] Also [some] of the Philistines brought35 Jehoshaphat presents, and tribute silver; and the Arabians brought him flocks, seven thousand and seven hundred rams, and seven thousand and seven hundred he goats.
[12] [¶]And Jehoshaphat waxed great36 exceedingly; and he built in Judah37 castles38, and cities of store.39 [13] And he had much business40 in the cities of Judah: and the men of war, mighty men of valour, [were] in Jerusalem. [14] And these [are] the numbers41 of them according to the house42 of their fathers: Of Judah, the captains of thousands; Adnah the chief, and with him mighty men of valour three hundred43 thousand. [15] And next to him44 [was] Jehohanan the captain, and with him two hundred and fourscore thousand. [16] And next him [was] Amasiah the son of Zichri, who willingly45 offered himself unto the Lord; and with him two hundred thousand mighty men of valour. [17] And of Benjamin; Eliada a mighty man of valour, and with him armed men46 with bow and shield two hundred thousand. [18] And next him [was] Jehozabad, and with him an hundred and fourscore thousand ready prepared for the war. [19] These waited on the king, beside [those] whom the king put in47 the fenced cities throughout all Judah.

-
We may presume that the Princes instructed the people in the nature of the civil law and constitution of the kingdom; that the Levites instructed them in every thing that appertained to the temple service, and ritual law; and that the Priests instructed them in the nature and design of their religion. Thus the nation became thoroughly instructed in their duty to God, to the king, and to each other; they therefore became as one man; and against a people thus united, on such principles, no enemy could be successful.
