⥃Come Quickly to Me [ Psalms 70:1–5 ]
A Psalm of David.
[1] Lord, I cry unto thee: make haste2 unto me; give ear unto my voice, when I cry unto thee.3 [2] Let my prayer4 be set forth5 before thee [as] incense6; [and] the lifting7 up of my hands [as] the evening8 sacrifice. [3] Set a watch9, O Lord, before my mouth; keep the door of my lips. [4] Incline not10 my heart to [any] evil thing, to practise11 wicked works with men that work iniquity: and let me12 not eat of their dainties. [5] Let the righteous13 smite14 me; [it shall be] a kindness: and let him reprove me; [it shall be] an excellent oil, [which] shall not break my head: for yet my15 prayer also [shall be] in their calamities. [6] When their judges16 are overthrown in stony places, they shall hear17 my words; for they18 are sweet. [7] Our bones19 are scattered at the grave’s mouth, as when one cutteth and cleaveth [wood] upon the earth. [8] But mine eyes20 [are] unto thee, O God the Lord: in thee is my trust; leave not my soul destitute21. [9] Keep me from the snares22 [which] they have laid for me, and the gins of the workers of iniquity. [10] Let the wicked23 fall into their own nets, whilst that I withal escape24.

David, who was now driven from Judea, and far from the sanctuary, here prays that the devotion of his heart, and the elevation of his hands, might be accepted; that the one might ascend to heaven fragrant and well pleasing as the cloud of incense, and the other, in conjunction with it, be prevalent as the minchah, or evening oblation.
