And they said unto me, The remnant that are left of the captivity there in the province [are] in great affliction and reproach: the wall of Jerusalem also [is] broken down, and the gates thereof are burned with fire.

And they told me, “The remnant who survived the exile are there in the province, in great trouble and disgrace. The wall of Jerusalem is broken down, and its gates have been burned with fire.”

וַ יֹּאמְרוּ֮ לִ י֒ הַֽ נִּשְׁאָרִ֞ים אֲשֶֽׁר ־ נִשְׁאֲר֤וּ מִן ־ הַ שְּׁבִי֙ שָׁ֣ם בַּ מְּדִינָ֔ה בְּ רָעָ֥ה גְדֹלָ֖ה וּ בְ חֶרְפָּ֑ה וְ חוֹמַ֤ת יְרוּשָׁלִַ֙ם֙ מְפֹרָ֔צֶת וּ שְׁעָרֶ֖י הָ נִצְּת֥וּ בָ אֵֽשׁ ׃
