⥃The Descendants of Levi

[1] The sons of Levi²; Gershon³, Kohath, and Merari.⁴ [2] And the sons of Kohath⁵; Amram⁶, Izhar, and Hebron, and Uzziel. [3] And the children of Amram; Aaron⁷, and Moses, and Miriam⁸. The sons also of Aaron; Nadab⁹, and Abihu, Eleazar¹⁰, and Ithamar.

[4] [¶]Eleazar begat Phinehas¹¹, Phinehas begat Abishua¹², [5] And Abishua begat Bukki, and Bukki begat Uzzi, [6] And Uzzi begat Zerahiah¹³, and Zerahiah begat Meraioth¹⁴, [7] Meraioth begat Amariah¹⁵, and Amariah begat Ahitub¹⁶, [8] And Ahitub¹⁷ begat Zadok¹⁸, and Zadok begat Ahimaaz¹⁹, [9] And Ahimaaz begat Azariah²⁰, and Azariah begat Johanan²¹, [10] And Johanan²² begat Azariah, (he [it is] that executed²³ the priest’s office in the temple²⁴ that Solomon²⁵ built in Jerusalem:)²⁶ [11] And Azariah begat Amariah²⁷, and Amariah begat Ahitub, [12] And Ahitub begat Zadok, and Zadok begat Shallum²⁸, [13] And Shallum begat Hilkiah²⁹, and Hilkiah begat Azariah, [14] And Azariah begat Seraiah³⁰, and Seraiah begat Jehozadak,³¹ [15] And Jehozadak³² went [into captivity], when the Lord³³ carried away Judah and Jerusalem by the hand³⁴ of Nebuchadnezzar.

[16] [¶]The sons of Levi; Gershom³⁵, Kohath, and Merari.³⁶ [17] And these [be] the names of the sons of Gershom³⁷; Libni, and Shimei³⁸. [18] And the sons of Kohath [were], Amram³⁹, and Izhar, and Hebron, and Uzziel. [19] The sons of Merari; Mahli⁴⁰, and Mushi. And these [are] the families of the Levites according to their fathers. [20] Of Gershom; Libni⁴¹ his son, Jahath his son, Zimmah⁴² his son, [21] Joah⁴³ his son, Iddo his son, Zerah⁴⁴ his son, Jeaterai⁴⁵ his son. [22] The sons of Kohath; Amminadab⁴⁶ his son, Korah his son, Assir his son, [23] Elkanah his son, and Ebiasaph his son, and Assir his son, [24] Tahath his son, Uriel⁴⁷ his son, Uzziah his son, and Shaul his son. [25] And the sons of Elkanah⁴⁸; Amasai, and Ahimoth.⁴⁹ [26] [As for] Elkanah: the sons of Elkanah; Zophai⁵⁰ his son, and Nahath⁵¹ his son, [27] Eliab⁵² his son, Jeroham his son, Elkanah⁵³ his son. [28] And the sons of Samuel; the firstborn⁵⁴ Vashni⁵⁵, and Abiah. [29] The sons of Merari; Mahli⁵⁶, Libni his son, Shimei his son, Uzza his son, [30] Shimea his son, Haggiah⁵⁷ his son, Asaiah his son.

⥃The Temple Musicians

[31] And these [are they] whom David⁵⁸ set over the service of song in the house of the Lord, after that⁵⁹ the ark had rest.⁶⁰ [32] And they ministered⁶¹ before the dwelling place of the tabernacle of the congregation with singing⁶², until Solomon⁶³ had built the house of the Lord in Jerusalem: and [then⁶⁴] they waited on their office according to their order⁶⁵. [33] And these [are] they that waited with their children. Of the sons of the Kohathites: Heman⁶⁶ a singer, the son of Joel⁶⁷, the son of Shemuel⁶⁸, [34] The son of Elkanah⁶⁹, the son of Jeroham⁷⁰, the son of Eliel⁷¹, the son of Toah⁷², [35] The son of Zuph⁷³, the son of Elkanah⁷⁴, the son of Mahath, the son of Amasai, [36] The son of Elkanah, the son of Joel⁷⁵, the son of Azariah, the son of Zephaniah, [37] The son of Tahath⁷⁶, the son of Assir⁷⁷, the son of Ebiasaph⁷⁸, the son of Korah⁷⁹, [38] The son of Izhar⁸⁰, the son of Kohath⁸¹, the son of Levi⁸², the son of Israel⁸³. [39] And his brother⁸⁴ Asaph⁸⁵, who stood on his right hand, [even] Asaph the son of Berachiah, the son of Shimea, [40] The son of Michael⁸⁶, the son of Baaseiah⁸⁷, the son of Malchiah, [41] The son of Ethni⁸⁸, the son of Zerah, the son of Adaiah⁸⁹, [42] The son of Ethan⁹⁰, the son of Zimmah⁹¹, the son of Shimei⁹², [43] The son of Jahath⁹³, the son of Gershom⁹⁴, the son of Levi. [44] And their brethren the sons of Merari [stood] on the left hand: Ethan⁹⁵ the son of Kishi⁹⁶, the son of Abdi, the son of Malluch, [45] The son of Hashabiah⁹⁷, the son of Amaziah⁹⁸, the son of Hilkiah⁹⁹, [46] The son of Amzi, the son of Bani, the son of Shamer, [47] The son of Mahli¹⁰⁰, the son of Mushi¹⁰¹, the son of Merari¹⁰², the son of Levi¹⁰³.

⥃The Descendants of Aaron

[48] Their brethren¹⁰⁴ also the Levites [were] appointed¹⁰⁵ unto all manner of service of the tabernacle of the house of God.

[49] [¶]But Aaron¹⁰⁶ and his sons offered upon the altar of the burnt offering, and on the altar of incense, [and were appointed] for all the work of the [place] most holy, and to make an atonement¹⁰⁷ for Israel, according to all that Moses¹⁰⁸ the servant of God had commanded.¹⁰⁹ [50] And these [are¹¹⁰] the sons of Aaron; Eleazar¹¹¹ his son, Phinehas¹¹² his son, Abishua his son, [51] Bukki¹¹³ his son, Uzzi his son, Zerahiah his son, [52] Meraioth¹¹⁴ his son, Amariah his son, Ahitub his son, [53] Zadok¹¹⁵ his son, Ahimaaz his son.

[54] Now these [are¹¹⁶] their dwelling places throughout their castles¹¹⁷ in their coasts, of the sons of Aaron, of the families¹¹⁸ of the Kohathites: for theirs¹¹⁹ was the lot.¹²⁰ [55] And they gave them Hebron¹²¹ in the land of Judah, and the suburbs thereof round about it. [56] But the fields¹²² of the city, and the villages thereof, they gave to Caleb¹²³ the son of Jephunneh. [57] And to the sons of Aaron they gave¹²⁴ the cities of Judah, [namely], Hebron, [the city] of refuge¹²⁵, and Libnah¹²⁶ with her suburbs, and Jattir¹²⁷, and Eshtemoa, with their suburbs, [58] And Hilen¹²⁸ with her suburbs, Debir¹²⁹ with her suburbs, [59] And Ashan¹³⁰ with her suburbs, and Beth–shemesh¹³¹ with her suburbs: [60] And out of the tribe of Benjamin; Geba¹³² with her suburbs, and Alemeth¹³³ with her suburbs, and Anathoth¹³⁴ with her suburbs. All their cities throughout their families [were] thirteen cities¹³⁵. [61] And unto¹³⁶ the sons of Kohath, [which were] left¹³⁷ of the family of that tribe, [were cities given] out of the half tribe, [namely], [out of] the half [tribe] of Manasseh, by lot¹³⁸, ten cities¹³⁹. [62] And to the sons of Gershom¹⁴⁰ throughout their families out of the tribe of Issachar, and out of the tribe of Asher, and out of the tribe of Naphtali, and out of the tribe of Manasseh in Bashan, thirteen cities. [63] Unto the sons of Merari¹⁴¹ [were given] by lot, throughout their families, out of the tribe of Reuben, and out of the tribe of Gad, and out of the tribe of Zebulun, twelve cities. [64] And the children¹⁴² of Israel gave to the Levites [these] cities with their¹⁴³ suburbs. [65] And they gave by lot out of the tribe of the children of Judah, and out of the tribe of the children of Simeon, and out of the tribe of the children of Benjamin, these cities¹⁴⁴, which are called by [their] names. [66] And [the residue¹⁴⁵] of the families of the sons of Kohath had cities of their coasts out of the tribe of Ephraim. [67] And they gave unto them, [of] the cities of refuge, Shechem¹⁴⁶ in mount Ephraim with her suburbs; [they gave] also Gezer¹⁴⁷ with her suburbs, [68] And Jokmeam¹⁴⁸ with her suburbs, and Beth–horon¹⁴⁹ with her suburbs, [69] And Aijalon¹⁵⁰ with her suburbs, and Gath–rimmon¹⁵¹ with her suburbs: [70] And out of the half tribe of Manasseh; Aner¹⁵² with her suburbs, and Bileam¹⁵³ with her suburbs, for the family of the remnant of the sons of Kohath. [71] Unto the sons of Gershom [were given] out of the family of the half tribe of Manasseh, Golan¹⁵⁴ in Bashan¹⁵⁵ with her suburbs, and Ashtaroth¹⁵⁶ with her suburbs: [72] And out of the tribe of Issachar; Kedesh¹⁵⁷ with her suburbs, Daberath¹⁵⁸ with her suburbs, [73] And Ramoth¹⁵⁹ with her suburbs, and Anem¹⁶⁰ with her suburbs: [74] And out of the tribe of Asher; Mashal¹⁶¹ with her suburbs, and Abdon with her suburbs, [75] And Hukok¹⁶² with her suburbs, and Rehob with her suburbs: [76] And out of the tribe of Naphtali; Kedesh¹⁶³ in Galilee with her suburbs, and Hammon¹⁶⁴ with her suburbs, and Kirjathaim¹⁶⁵ with her suburbs. [77] Unto¹⁶⁶ the rest of the children of Merari [were given] out of the tribe of Zebulun, Rimmon¹⁶⁷ with her suburbs, Tabor¹⁶⁸ with her suburbs: [78] And on the other side Jordan by Jericho, on the east side of Jordan, [were given them] out of the tribe of Reuben, Bezer¹⁶⁹ in the wilderness with her suburbs, and Jahzah¹⁷⁰ with her suburbs, [79] Kedemoth¹⁷¹ also with her suburbs, and Mephaath¹⁷² with her suburbs: [80] And out of the tribe of Gad; Ramoth¹⁷³ in Gilead with her suburbs, and Mahanaim¹⁷⁴ with her suburbs, [81] And Heshbon¹⁷⁵ with her suburbs, and Jazer¹⁷⁶ with her suburbs.
