And it came to pass, when they were gone over, that Elijah said unto Elisha, Ask what I shall do for thee, before I be taken away from thee. And Elisha said, I pray thee, let a double portion of thy spirit be upon me.

After they had crossed over, Elijah said to Elisha, “Tell me, what can I do for you before I am taken away from you?” “Please, let me inherit a double portion of your spirit,” Elisha replied.

וַ יְהִ֣י כְ עָבְרָ֗ם וְ אֵ֨לִיָּ֜הוּ אָמַ֤ר אֶל ־ אֱלִישָׁע֙ שְׁאַל֙ מָ֣ה אֶֽעֱשֶׂה ־ לָּ֔ךְ בְּ טֶ֖רֶם אֶלָּקַ֣ח מֵ עִמָּ֑ךְ וַ יֹּ֣אמֶר אֱלִישָׁ֔ע וִֽ יהִי ־ נָ֛א פִּֽי ־ שְׁנַ֥יִם בְּ רוּחֲ ךָ֖ אֵלָֽ י ׃
