ὄνυξ, ῠχος, ὁ,

[Refs 8th c.BC+] and always of the eagle, talons, claws, [Refs 8th c.BC+]; so of the falcon, [Refs 8th c.BC+]; so of beasts of prey, [Refs 5th c.BC+]; of the crocodile, [Refs]; of the Sphinx, [Refs 5th c.BC+]; of human beings, nail, [Refs 8th c.BC+]; of horses and oxen, hoof, X.Eq.[Refs 4th c.BC+] speaks of the hoof (ὁπλή) as homologous to the nail or claw (ὄνυξ), [Refs 5th c.BC+] —Special phrases:
