For the battle was there scattered over the face of all the country: and the wood devoured more people that day than the sword devoured.

The battle spread over the whole countryside, and that day the forest devoured more people than the sword.

וַ תְּהִי ־ שָׁ֧ם הַ מִּלְחָמָ֛ה נָפֹ֖צֶת עַל ־ פְּנֵ֣י כָל ־ הָ אָ֑רֶץ וַ יֶּ֤רֶב הַ יַּ֙עַר֙ לֶ אֱכֹ֣ל בָּ עָ֔ם מֵ אֲשֶׁ֥ר אָכְלָ֛ה הַ חֶ֖רֶב בַּ יּ֥וֹם הַ הֽוּא ׃
