Nevertheless the people refused to obey the voice of Samuel; and they said, Nay; but we will have a king over us;

Nevertheless, the people refused to listen to Samuel. “No!” they said. “We must have a king over us.

וַ יְמָאֲנ֣וּ הָ עָ֔ם לִ שְׁמֹ֖עַ בְּ ק֣וֹל שְׁמוּאֵ֑ל וַ יֹּאמְר֣וּ לֹּ֔א כִּ֥י אִם ־ מֶ֖לֶךְ יִֽהְיֶ֥ה עָלֵֽי נוּ ׃
